Question Firewood - For Free ??!!

Cutting down a tree in the UK, (yes from my armchair in NZ). (alright PC, not armchair).

Do you think I should/can give-a-way the wood to someone.
For free. No Charge.

Tree yet to be cut down.
Location, Datchet, Berks (sooo close to Scenic Slough)

Thx.

Who's tree is it?

Most landscapers/tree workers store their logs somewhere and sell them on the side. They get paid to chop the tree down, dispose of the 'waste' then they sell that 'waste' to someone else - it's a nice little earner for them.

If it's your tree, or the owner of the tree wants it down and doesn't want the logs then go for your life.

Yep, My Tree in My Garden.

As you say, I don't like paying someone to take something away, that they will sell anyway.

Any takers, then.

I'd have them if I was a bit nearer, mmmm, free logs Why don't you sell them? We pay £42 for a trailer load of well seasoned hardwood.

Main question is, what wood is it and how thick is the trunk?

If it's a hardwood and the trunk is over 12-18in thick, it could be useful to a woodworker.

If it's leylandii, then just use dynamite and laugh at any poor sucker that tries to take it away to burn it. Burns about as efficiently as damp cardboard.

Wheres that from Sal?

We're spending £50 a month on coal at the minute, and thats even with 2 massive trees worth of logs in the garden ready for chopping.

Local paper (in the free classifieds for sale section)? That's where my log man advertises.

What sort of tree is it? If it's hornbeam I'll come and chop it down myself.
