I have. Accomodation can be cheap in South Lake Tahoe and tacky too if that's what you like, it's Nevada so the laws are a bit more slack than CA. My choice would be to stay in North Lake Tahoe and drive to whatver resort takes your fancy, lots around to choose from. Northstar - Flatstar to the locals - is good and flatter than the rest, but not that flat. My favorite Squaw Valley isn't far.
