Smoking is natural ... as any smoker will tell you.

You do not have to look at a ciggie to light it and to smoke it - you DO if you are texting or calling on a Mobile

6 Points + £1000 fine would soon make people think!

Especially Transit and Lorry Drivers ..... bunch of idiots they are using mobiles!!

People lightin up in cars annoys me too, going cross eyes to light their ***. Even if they dont look to light it then they either throw it out the window or have to loose concentration to make sure they stub it out fully as well. Damn nicotine junkies.

People on mobiles is worse tho, total lack of concentration. A copper mate of mine pulled someone over because he thought they were drunk, when he went to the window the bloke said straight away.. "sorry officer, I know why you stopped me is because I was on my mobile wasnt it"

Sometimes pete u speak sense-rarely tho-but most times u speak utter bollocks-this is one of those times...

how do u press your *** lighter in to warm it up in your car-without looking down at dashboard?...or find your lighter in glove box etc without taking eyes of road?... and as for smoking being natural-if that was case why aren't we born with a chimney on top of our head!

Same here, if your familiar with the car your driving it should be fairly easy, also like your preprogrammed when you sit in the motor. Some people can light their **** whilst the car is idling at traffic lights etc etc....

Common Sense needed here people.

Thumbs down

Surely the 'offence' for which adequate laws already exist is not being in proper control of a vehicle. Whether that lack of control is caused by using a phone, lighting a cigarette, ogling at women, applying makeup etc. is irrelevant. Why a special law is required for phone use is unclear to me

If a person can undertake these activities and maintain control then surely there is no problem

People can be distracted by all sorts of other things, loose dogs in the car, emotional difficulties, worry about being late, turning round to tell off the kids etc., etc. Where are the laws governing these indiscretions?

PS I don't use a mobile in the car, but don't understand why a raft of legislation is required that is already covered succinctly as noted above. As with speeding, people (admittedly simple people) will think "I am not on the phone or speeding therefore my driving is safe."

Had a thought the other day - if using a mobile phone whilst driving is considered a risk (and I'm more than happy to agree it is - no problem there) - then isn't doing a piece to camera a risk as well?

I'm not suggesting we ban Top Gear - I'm just curious about what the differece is - especially as this usually involves looking at a camera too...?

And if there were to ever try to ban it - can you imagine how Clarkson would react...?

That's crazy, if you did that then they wouldn't be able to reach the pedals either.

If he was asleep on the Motorway, is that an offence - like walking on a Motorway??

Always enjoy pulling alongside cars at junctions or lights with the driver on his mobile and opening the throttle up to 6000 rpm on my R6. They can't hear a f**king thing !!

Why would you want to do that....

My wife and child were injured in a head crash due to a silly biatch texting on her phone whislt driving and guess what, cos she cleared all the memory and my son isnt classed as an independant witness the biatch got away with it, thankfully neither the wife nor son were serioulsy injured.

So thank your lucky stars you only got a £30 fine mate, it really pi$$e$ me off seeing w@nkers doing this

Its all about concentration, and NOT about how many hands you have on the steering wheel - see my reply in the other "mobile" thread about fixed penatly notices.

When I used to drive and use the mobile, I could go miles without reaising the route i'd taken, when I used to smoke whilst driving it never affected my route/driving at all.

If you break the law and caught, you can't expect anything better than a penalty unless you are lucky.

Smoking is not anything like the distraction that using a mobile is.

Not pushing to the front of the queue but legally filtering.

Where do bikers block the road waiting at junctions / lights ?

My mobile doesn't cause 3rd degree burns to my **** and ***** if I drop it on my lap. Smoking should be banned whilst driving.
