Default Private or NHS for orthodentist??

I had some teeth out and a Brace when I was a kid, but it always left me with a very slight gap between my front top two teeth.

15 years later, and there has been very sudden and very and widening of the gap - basically the left tooth is getting very friendly with the one next door!

I went to see the dentist this morning who has recommended me to the orthodentist in April, and it is likely they will need to fit a brace.

the initial 15 minute consultation is £50

which begs the question how much will it cost to get the brace fitted!!!

So, my question is, how much will the likely cost, and how much would it cost if I went private??

Once my teeth are straight again, I also want to get some cosmetic filing to the same front teeth. Does the NHS even do this or would that have to be a private job?

thanks

Goofy

LOL....no, I own the company

Edcase

The NHS often runs a scheme called IOTN (Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need) where only the most worst cases are offered NHS treatment. If your tooth mal-alignment is minor then it won't even show up on the NHS RADAR and you will have to go privately.

Consultations with an NHS Consultant orthodontist are free.

Depending on the complexity I'd budget £500 - £1k for the bracework privately depending on the complexity. Minor orthodontic treatment like closing your diastema (gap!) are at the cheaper end

Cheers

Shaun, thanks for the insight. She seemed to think they would do it as it was only going to deteriorate. However she definitely said the consultation was £50??

Best change your plans for a new PC. I had an issue the other year, needed to see a specialist = £1600 for a couple of hours work!

ooops took my eye off the thread

£50 consultation seems like a "high street specialist" orthodontic consultation fee......

These are specially trained orthodontists (on the General Dental Council Register of Specialists) who work outside of hospitals but with higher qualifications

OK you have to pay for their services but are normally top guys !!

My two kids are deffo going to need Orthodontic treatment and I'm probably going to have to pay...eek ! My local High Street Orthodontic Specialist is Steve Whitehurst at the Derwent House Orthodontic Practice here in Cockermouth (Cumbria)

I have no hesitation in naming him as he's fantastic !!

errrrr does this help ??

Always thought about getting a tooth of mine that sticks out comapered to the others pulled back into line with a brace, but for £500 I think I'll just keep my mouth shut... literally
