I used to follow F1 religiously but lately haven't bothered so watching the qualifying now I haven't got a clue what they're up to.

Can someone please explain to me what's going on?

Basically it's a knockout situation every 15 minutes. If you''re too slow you get thrown out. Big names out so far

Thanks.

I'd pretty much decided I was going to hate the new qualifying format before even seeing it, but actually loved it!! Was way more exciting than the old systems.

Generally, I think the new qualifying worked pretty well.

However, did anyone else wonder at the point of the first 15 minutes of the final session? It just seemed to be a pointless exercise to waste fuel by cruising around?

Ok, so we get to see cars going round in circles for the whole 20 minutes, but they might as well have just pulled the drain plug out of the fuel tanks and let the excess fuel evapourate.
That fuelling rule for the final session needs to be revised - can't help thinking the Green lobby will be critisising F1 for litterally wasting 100's of litres of fuel per race (the drivers, cars or even spectators seem to get nothing from these 15 minutes of cruising).

Otherwise, far more entertaining than any previous efforts, with just as hectic final five minutes as the 'old days'.

I must admit that bit was a bit pointless. I wouldnt be surprised to see some changes made to that last 20min section.

Should be an interesting race tomorrow! My moneys on Alonso (he'll have loads of fuel in)

In these environmentally motivated times. I find it pretty stupid to make teams go and waste fuel. Yes, I understand the paradox of Motor Racing needing to be kind to the environment, but to do it so blatently seems a bit decadent. And won't help (non Motosport) people like the Sport.

Overall though I felt the Qualifying wasnt that gooed either. I can see ITV in the future just showing highlights from the first 2 sessions. And only showing the final 20mins "Live"

p.s. Go Super Aguri

But arguably there are 12 cars not taking part in the final session hence saving quite a bit of fuel.

Is that James 'my hair doesn't look like it's been washed since 1992' Allen?

I had a dream that Button will take out Schumacher today. I had to post it somewhere, just in case it does happen.

Whatever anyone thinks of the qualifying, it was a great race and bodes well for the future.
