Default Wisdom teeth pain

I'm currently in a great deal of pain, due to my wisdom teeth coming through.

I've had toothache/ear ache, on and off, for the previous 10 days or so. Last night and today, however, the pain has been constant and more intense. I'm stocked up with Nurofen and I've been using Bonjela, but they're both starting to make little difference.

As things stand, I don't have a dentist back in Leeds. But, as I'm home this weekend, I'm wondering if it's worth taking a trip to A&E in the morning. Perhaps they'll prescribe me painkillers, while I make alternative arrangements?

If not, I guess I'll curl myself up into a little ball and hope the pain disappears.

I would think you need an xray asap?

One of mine gives me grief at the moment, xray confirmed its impacted. Its growing horizontally Due to have it pulled!

I only got given antibiotics as my gum was swollen.

Take the pain

I think it's best to visit the A&E department in the morning, then. No doubt it'll be a long, long wait - that'll be where the iPod comes in handy.

I can feel the wisdom tooth (some of it has come through the gum), and it's pressing against/underneath my second molar, which I presume is why there's so much pain there.

As for taking the pain, I'm a wimp with tooth and ear ache - can't think of much worse.

Ring the Doctor, get them to come out with a strong painkiller ... it's what my wife did when I was in agonywith a tooth.

The tiny painkiller tablet stopped the pain dead and the sleeping pill let me sleep for about 10hours.

The relief was so good ......

Docs don't mind coming out for bad pain

you need it checked...

I'll last until the morning. I'm sure there are bigger, more serious issues out there that need attending to.

I'll see what they tell me tomorrow. I don't see why they wouldn't prescribe me with painkillers, considering I'm close to rolling around on the floor in a crying fit. If they don't, however, I'll kick up a fuss.

You could just have an infection as well in which case A&E might give you some antibiotics along with turbo pain killers so worth a visit.

Get to A&E before kids Junior Rugby ends otherwise you will have 14 sprained ankles etc in front of you........

All four wisdoms are impacted with mine and are protruding half way through the gum, not bothering to pop out anymore.

As a result they're getting infected often and all four have to come out. One is sitting so close to the nerve that they are telling me it is a hospital job, but I am still trying to convince them to do it in the chair.

Co-codamol or equivalent and antibiotics if infection is present is normally due course. Get an X-ray done to check out the situation.

Had mine out a few years ago. Masses of pain beforehand and inflamed gums/earache etc. but very little during/after the op! I think you take so much pain from the teeth that the actual op is a bit of a relief. Actually went back to work that same afternoon.

Best thing I found whilst waiting for the 2 or 3 days for the dentist was something called 'Cuprofen' - pink capsules (think you need to ask the pharmacist for them but they did work). Failing that, I'd second the whisky technique as well. This will at least keep the area clean and free from infection!

The pain after wisdom teeth removal is not something I'd wish on anybody.
Be prepared for a week of agony.
