Default At least our Army is the best in the world.....

Not in Blair's Britain! It seems that even paratroopers - supposedly one of the more premier regiments cant even jump out of planes now, because there arent any planes!

My cousin's husband was off to Oman as training and working up prior to his tour in Afghanistan. He's based at Catterick and was flying from Brize Norton. His depature date was constantly changed and in the end the Army couldn't provide any transport to Brize Norton, so my cousin had to drive him there otherwise she wouldn't have seen their car again for six months

Question

My eldest came home from work the other day, and asked me if it was true that, just as more of our lads are going to Afghanistan, air cover for them was being withdrawn as the Ministry will no longer fund it.

Anyone know?

British Army - best trained, best disciplined but badly equipped. The Yanks on the other hand have all the shiny kit but no idea how to organise a **** up in a brewery.

I know exactly what you mean about people having to end up driving to places to get their flights as everything is rescheduled numerous amounts of times , we are based at Ripon just down the road from Catterick and my hubby has been working in the engr's welfare dept, the amount of times he would get a last minute booking for a hire car to get them to Brize for the nxt morning was unbelievable, all because they had no means of getting to their flight etc, or getting a phone call at 10pm asking if he can take them all the way down south the following morning at 5am as nothing had been arranged elsewhere when they thought they had transport.
Atleast we won't have anymore of it, now finished in the army and out of this house in May, eventually returning to normal life and no-more moving around all the time.

It all sounds considerably worse than as I remember it. We always felt somewhat underfunded but not so badly that we could not manage.

Glad I am not still in anyway.

If I have to explain.

Using your age in a mildly humorous way as an attempt to explain the reasoning behind your simplistic one-dimensional argument.

I've heard that too Alcazar. My Dad mentioned that RAF Harriers are coming home due to cost-cutting. Madness.

Edit to say:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/afghanista...695677,00.html

· The total number of British troops in Afghanistan will fluctuate over the next few months, peaking briefly at around 5,700 before reducing to less than 4,700 as the engineers building the camps in Helmand and an existing Harrier GR7 detatchment withdraw in July and June respectively.
Which would leave them with 8 Apaches and a few other helicoptors.

What do you mean your armed forces - surely you meant Our Armed Forces - or do you not feel proud to be a part of this great Nation? Nationalism just seems to be dieing on its **** these days. Everyones an bloody individual with no sense of collective pride (except when the bloody World Cup is on - and then they turn into moronic idiots) ( no offence meant to any moronic idiots on here if any- sorry!!!

Unfortunately, this Persian excursion whilst conducting American foreign policy has resulted in this overstretch of the Herc fleet but I cannot see why they don't use another platform? What about Chinooks - surely this would be a far quicker way of achieving their training objectives?

Anyway, when was the last time the Paras were ever dropped into a hostile area? Is it really that relevant when there have always been more Royal Marines with parachute wings than actual Para's?

Brace yerself. Olly, but I agree with you completely here. Especially your comment about the Yanks. Though I'd substitute "British Forces" for "British Army" - the Royal Marines, Navy and RAF do a pretty damn' fine job with minimal support from HMG as well...

The big red regiment of the US force is bigger than the entire british army.

We should be lucky our boys are only in Iraq where it was a walk in the park where most of the so called soldiers came out with their hands up and have better living conditions whilst captured.
