Sky Plus box died last night - right in the middle of 24!
just out of warranty too - lost all of the stuff on the hard drive.
Anyone know if last Sundays 24 is repeated this week?
Its the second Sky Plus box we've had Used Tivo for 7 yrs prior to this and never had any problems with that.

just read up on the 24 website...not much happened anyway (i assume you saw the bit where Tony woke up and had the fight with Audrey Raines...with Kim getting shot? and the Edgar/Jack gay sex scandle.....that was the cliff hanger so you may not have caught that bit)

It's repeated tomorrow at 10PM on Sky Two.

Ring up an threaten to cancel they will soon offer you a new box .Have just rang up and canceled my subscription after 8 years, 3 boxes in 9 months and still having problems doesn't justify the £35 a month fee. they have already rang 3 times though offering me everything from a free sky+ box to 6 months 1/2 price subscription

Steve, I've had Sky+ since last July and it's been pretty fine so far (touch wood). Except for the occasional need to re-boot. Not lost any data though. Only twice has it failed to make a recording.

I had 2 new Sky+ boxes in the first 14 months. Since then I've fitted a new hard drive and no more problems.
IT would appear that the 40gb drive in the original Nokia boxes was not very reliable and changing it makes all the difference......

Is there a way to reclaim that space?

I used a Maxtor 160gb drive (7200rpm), around £50 now, which provides around 80 hours of recording. I believe other drives will work, but everyone I know who have upgraded have used the Maxtors, on my advice!!!
Simply remove the top cover, detach the drive from the cradle and refit the new drive. The new drive will work with no configuration.
There is an option in the Engineer mode (press SERVICES 401 SELECT) to reformat an existing drive, this may recover your missing space, but you will lose any saved programs of course...

thanks folks. Will watch the repeat on Sky two
Tivo was 200% better than the Sky Plus, only downside was single channel. The functionality of Tivo 7 years ago is still light years ahead of Sky plus.
Might get it back out of the loft

thats fine. Try to get a slow ( 5400 or 7200 rpm ) and quiet one for this sort of application.
Dunno if the sky+ will do 200GB+ drives but they're all up on scan's todayonly site today ..up to 500GB
