I've been fascinated by these since being a small kid and fancy getting one, purely out of interest in them.
Has anyone got/had one and can share their experiences of them?
Cheers,
Matt

I used to have one - what do you want to know? Never trigger the trap unless you are feeding the plant, it can only reset 2 or 3 times. You will need to feed it, bits of bacon or mince.

No, it will grow new leaves / traps, but any given trap can only be triggered 2 or 3 times, so don't tickle the hairs to see what happens, otherwise you may not have enough traps left to sustain the plant.

1) Don't spring the traps yourself.
2) Keep the plant wet - it's a bog plant afterall.
3) Never feed it any fertilizer.
4) Only water it with rain water, I use water from my pond.
5) I've never force feed any of mine with meat, but occationally give a helping hand to any stray spiders and flies which wnader past.
6) Don't let it flower, if it does it'll probably die after as it take all it's "energy" to produce the flower. The flower normally grows from the centre of the plant on a very long stem, this is so that any insects pollenating the flower won't get trapped.
7) Mine die down during the winter and come back for summer.
8) I keep mine on the windowsill.
Thats it really, these plants live in very poor soil condidtions and don't require much food, so just keep it wet.
Attached pic is of some unlucky fella, seconds form death!

I keep a couple in my office. I work in a converted barn and we get lots of bugs in, so they're well fed!
They don't like the chemicals in tap water, so I use water from the pond just up the road. Keep them wet and in good light.
TBH neither is doing too well at the moment, they do die back over winter and haven't really started to grow yet. Hopefully the longer days will help.

Wow i remember my dad having one of these when i was a kid. I came back from holidaying in Corfu with my trusted fly squatter. I had loads of fun squatting flies and feeding them to the venus ![Thumb](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif)
Cant remember what happened to it, we also had a big Yukka (sp) plant

Seen them in places like Homebase and B&Q. Not worth the effort though - they'll never get large enough to eat the pesky kids from next door ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Out of interest, do they cause you to have more bugs near the plant through them being attracted to it?
