Day out around yorkshire
I'm wanting to take the g/f out somewhere next sunday. Just wondering where we can go.
What with the tempremental (spelling) weather i don't fancy being in the middle of knowwhere.
Any help or ideas would be great.

Yorkshire (S,W,N) is a huge area. We seem to have re-aquired East Ridding, thought we'd got of that, so it becomes even bigger still.
Do you have any area in mind? Ilkley and Harrogate are worth a look, Skipton is quite nice as well, but will only take a morning.

One of my favourite places is the Red Lion at Grassington. Park there and have a pint to justify using their car park and then follow the River Wharfe upstream to Linton Falls (should take about 1-1 1/2 hours) and then up the hill into Grassington for a bite to eat (I like the Devonshire Hotel ). Suitably satiated simply walk back. You can't get lost and are never far from anywhere. The weather shows a 40% chance of showers on sunday, although saturday looks nice.
Another great walk is Ingleton Falls up near Settle. Allow 2-3 hours. Again, you can't get lost as you simply follow the valley up one side, across the tops and back down the other side into the village. You have to pay for this walk though, but it is worth it.
Enjoy the roads whilst up there too Settle to Hawes is an outstanding road with tremendously fast sweeping bends with good visibility to allow clean overtaking and superb progress. Be careful of the dip about 2 miles from Hawes which will see you getting air at anything above 70 Beyond Hawes is Buttertubs Pass, listed by Jeremy Clarkson as one of his favourite roads (and also used by Evo mag regularly) in the world, but I find it's narrowness and twistyness denies any good speed.
There's also a creamery in Hawes which makes and sell fantastic cheese. They do a factory tour, although I haven't done it yet.
Other great places for walks and scenery include Malham Cove & Tarn, Kilnsey Cragg, Brimham Rocks, Buckden Pike, Pen Y Ghent and Whernside.
Another good leisurely walk will take you around Swinsty and Thruscross reservoirs. Allow 2 hours for the figure of 8 route, and then pop up the The Sun Inn at Blubberhouses for a pint with a couple of hundred bikers and usually a few Scoobs.
If you want any more specific info, just ask

Yeah, corradoboy is spot on there! The Wensleydale creamery is fantastic....well the cheese shop is, there's loads of free tatsers!
I wouldn't bother stopping in Skipton, You might bump into me for one thing and besides that it's sh*t!
The Drive from Settle - Ribblehead - Hawes to Kettlewell is deffo worth doing. This takes in the creamery too. As mentioned, look out for the not so easy to spot yumps and the bend that had a Fiesta sized whole in it's wall!

I'll never forget the "main" yump on the hawes road - Dales and I launching his Scoob about 6 foot in the air, and your mate buggering his exhaust on the Stratos

Agree with the above, the Settle to Hawes road is excellent, we often do a circular drive from here (Skipton) up to Settle, Hawes, sometimes over Buttertubs, along Swaledale, back over into Askrigg, Aysgarth, Kettlewell, Grassington, Skipton. I can thoroughly recommend the Wensleydale Creamery too, their cheese shop (and big bowls of free taster sized bites - don't bother with lunch first ) is excellent. Their Wensleydale with blueberries is awesome The sweet shop in Grassington also does some very nice ice creams
There's a very nice tea room/cafe in Hawes at the western end of the High St which is run by suvverners and I recommend it highly for any exiled southerners (like me) to go and hear some people speaking normally for a change They also do a wicked Panini

Simon, I remember you and Dales trying to pass me at the same time as a sheep decided to check the tarmac on the road!
I'm off into Skipton now so I'll double check...

I want to know if he enjoyed his day out, otherwise I will be claiming the 8 minutes and 12 seconds it took me to type my recommendations back. I don't know, you go out of your way to share knowlege and experience with people and what thanks do you get

Haha, thanks for the help guys!
It's this weekend the 26th. Still don't know where to go. Was thinking of going upto whitby or something. However the weather isn't looking very good for Sunday
Forcasts for rain pretty much everywhere up north!
