Insurance Q -- long wait for parts to fix car
Mate at work had a no-fault accident which put his car, a 2002 Rover 25, off the road.
His insurer is Direct Line, and his car is in with the Direct Line approved bodyshop.
Problem is, he's been waiting for a new door for over 2 weeks. Bodyshop does not know how long it will take to get the new door.
His insurance car hire has now expired and he has to pay for car hire.
All of these expenses will eventually be covered when the other party coughs up, but is there anything he can do in the meantime?
thanks for any advice,
Craig

Sadly not, my impreza was off the road for seven weeks waiting on a wing and a wheel cause some lazy b@st@rd mechanics couldn't get their lives together for five minutes to order one! (I'm a little bitter still!)
I got three hundred pounds compo from Admiral last week, six months later, which considering my excess was three hundred and fifty was a bit crap, but had had enough of the whole sorry affair.
Seems the best way to deal with incidents like this is to vote with your money and switch companies at renewal, and let them know why! That feels good!!!!
He can try to find the parts himself, as the parts lad or girl at the garage is obviously chasing dozens of parts, but apart from this.........
He can contact a company like Bristol and London who will arrange for a hire car and bill the third party directly.

i work in a body shop and we are having major problems finding rover parts. we have even had to fit second hand panels. we are now not bookiing in rovers untill we order the parts and they are actually on site.
I think two weeks is good considering the problems

For future reference, tell direct line you want it doing at a place of your choice next time. It involves a bit of work (you need to get 3 prices as a norm), but then you can take it somewhere that has been reccomended, a must when it comes to bodywork.

Two weeks is nothing! A friend of mine got rear ended in her brand new (two week old) Clio in Jan and is still waiting for it to be repaired as there are no spares available from Renault as all ones being manufactured are being used to build the cars and not being released as spares.
