why cant they scrap the VED and put it on fuel, then that way everyone pays it and save time one money on having vans and the people who operate them sitting at road sides?

How is this going to apply to older cars, i.e. those without an official CO2/km rating? We know a MY06 WRX is 219 g/km, but what about my MY98?

Or is it just new cars?

Thanks

Also it appears the cut off for the new band is 225g CO2/km so a new WRX does not qualify

So the 'top 1% of polluting cars' are those over 225 g/km ? Or is it 250 g/km ?

Either way, it seems odd that only 1% of cars are over whichever one of those it is.

Mine's way over
I'm in the top 1%

Sure it's only just over half a tank, but anything that's in my pocket rather than Gordon's is a good thing IMO

True enough. But Friends of the Earth wanted 600 notes - can't see this pleasing anyone much.

The fuel inefficient cars get penalised at the pumps anyway, I see no reason why they should pay more for road tax.

Now now, no need for that sort of emotive language ;-)

tbh i think more tax differential for big/small cars makes sense, but it would be better achieved (I think) through fuel duty or other use-related levy.

Wrong it affects new cars registered from tomorrow. All cars currently on the road are unaffected by the new top band G.

If it's a car you already own then you can find out by checking CO2 emissions on your V5C registration certificate – section 4 or on the front of the older style V5 registration document.
Not sure how you would find out for one which you don't own though, could always try dealers website.
