...............cuts metal with a wire, under water, producing a perfectly cut out shape, as per computer instructions?
Saw one in use once, but can't remember what it was called. The guy cut me a new drop-out with disc mounts for my titanium mountain bike frame.

A current is passed through the wire and this arcs across between the wire and the metal component removing small (very small) pieces of material. This is called spark errosion, the wire moves about in X and Y via the machine control and spools so it doesnt wear out.
It can also be done using an electrode (a bit of copper machined to the shape you want to cut into the component)
The machines can also be known as EDM machines. They take a long time to operate as the process is inherently slow but can usually be left to run unattended.
