Indeed of the 8 houses sold on our street in the last 12 months, only 1 went for more than £125K. The last sold was a semi for £54K in Sept Last year

I used to have a two bedroom, two bathroom flat over two floors in this building.........

Here's a one bedroom, one bathroom!!!!

http://www.jeremy-james.co.uk/detail...rtyID=JJ100088

I now have a three bedroom, three thousand square foot house in Texas that cost me a shade over $200,000! Similar to this

If you can get a decent job you're quids in,but Lincolnshire comes way down the list of average salary. As for Grimsby, yes lots of the town is a dump and Sheffield is the nearest decent city (80 mins),but some of the surrounding villages are as nice as anywhere.

This is 5 minutes from where i live, and 10 minutes from Grimsby town centre.

Within a few miles of - yes. Basically pick any of the old mining towns round and about South Derbyshire and you're looking at the same story. A little run down, but starting to get cash thrown at them. Add to that I'm within 10 miles of Nottingham and Derby and 5 mins from a Midland Mainline Station and this area is ripe for rapid price increases as people move out of the 2 cities to look for better value for money.

Don't know what you expect to get for being a web developer elsewhere in the country but I believe we pay circa £35K in Nottingham and I am led to believe we aren't the best payers about.

imprezadan1 for £180K you'll get a 3-4 bed detached with a massive garden in my neck of the woods. Stick DE75 in to rightmove or similar

For 160 grand we got a large four bedroomed 1930's detached with a massive garden in Wilmslow, a suburb of South Manchester, near decent schools etc, quiet cul de sac.

Trouble is, that was 8 years ago !

All depends, salaries aren't that much bigger down South ya know

That terraced BOB T posted is in the next town to me, and only 5 years back they were even cheaper - you could buy them for £6000. I wouldnt want to live there though.

Move further out though, i.e. 6 miles away where we are and that same terraced would be circa £120k. Manchester is a 45 minute commute away by car, so plenty of well paid jobs there.

Its relative, but only to a certain point, and hence why we had to pay well over the odds (and £125k) to get our 3 bed semi.

**** me - when we moved out of Wilmslow over 16 years ago the 4 bed detached we sold went for £120K.

Things moved slowly for a few years, we were looking up to 200 and I thought we were going to get a mansion but the prices were just starting to creep up before going mental about 5 years ago, plus ours needed 25 grand spending on it !

300k in Grantham will get you a good sized 5bed house, double garage and massive garden, nice area to be I suppose, its on the main line with trains every half hour into Kings Cross, about 1hour and 20minute jouney. or if you want to use the car straight down the A1 and you'll be at the M25 in an hour 20.

Plumbers earn plenty everywhere, forget london, its a dive.
