Question Will the term "Chav" ever become offensive?

With Britain becoming more PC, I wonder if calling someone a Chav will ever become as offensive as being, say racist?

Ask yourself this - if somebody called you a "chav", would you be offended?

I certainly would.

Moral is that any phrase/term is offensive to somebody.

Sorry but my title is perhaps a little misleading. What I mean is will it ever be taken as serious as rascism? Just thought this country is so daft it wouldn't surprise me. And no, I'm not suggesting that rascism shouldn't be taken seriously either.

Gosh, one does have to cover tracks when discussing sensitive issues!

The way the media goes on abaout it everyone is a chav. 90% of the people on this forums kids who are teens will be considered a chav and a good deal of the people on this forum will also be considered as a chav. Especially if you drive a subaru.

The funny thing is on quite a couple forums people put downa dn amke fun of chavs when theyre one themselves (its a Bodybuliding forum) Chavs make me laugh.

I sat in a beer garden last summer listening to 4 very definate chavs arguing about whether they each were or weren't. They were all decked out in their tracksuit bottoms, baseball caps, trainers, gold chains, crew cuts, no shirt and scrawny bodies. One of the reasons given for not actually being a chav was the angle at which you wear your baseball cap I was trying to conceal my laughter for a long time and eventually my partner insisted we leave as they were becoming aware that my amusement was at their expense

#10 Chav or Chavvy is a gypsy word, basically means young person or child, in context :

Gypsy 1 : 'thats my little chavvy over there'
Gypsy 2 : 'which one ?'
Gypsy 1 : 'the one in the 70's clothes stripping down the stolen Transit over there'

Dont know how and why it started getting applied to the burberry brigade.
