If you want TRUE hi-def then get http://www.consumer.philips.com/cons...10_GB_CONSUMER It may just cost over 2k but its one of the few TVs out there that can produce 1080p properly

Oh come on... best 43" plasma on the market at the moment is the Pioneeer 436.
Every review I've read put it at the very top of the tree.
Picture quality is astounding.
That's why I bought one.![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

IMHO it just has to be the Pioneer - I've got a 436XDE & a 506XDE and they're both crackers. The picture is as good as it gets, but I just love the shiny black surround.
Depending on what you're using it for, it may be worth considering a projector & screen. I bought a Panasonic projector & Grandview electric screen for about 2 grand and they are amazing. A bit big for everyday use but awesome for watching films on. I was seriously impressed with the quality for the money. (My screen comes down in front of the 50" pioneer

I'd wait a couple of months until the 1080p sets start to come through. 1080P's not necessary for Sky HD but should make it more "futureproof" and maybe look better for HD-DVD and PS3.

We bought a Toshiba 37" LCD just before xmas, and it's a belter. 37WLT58 i think the model number is, got it from John Lewis (5-year warranty) but they price-matched another retailer so got it for just under £1600.

I don't think the human eye can resolve the difference between 1080p and 720p from the recommended viewing distances for this size of TV. Basically, all it'll mean is that you can get closer to the TV (when compared to the same sized 720p set) before you see pixelation. What's more important is the processing and scaling hardware you buy...
The bottom line: if you're thinking of going big, really big (say 60" or larger, or maybe DLP), the extra resolution may make it worth the difference in cost right now--as long as you have a pristine, 1080p HD source to feed into the set. Have you got a room big enough for it?
Best bet...get yourself to a decent independent tv shop and ask to see 720p at 37" vs 1080p at the same size (if they have a TRUE 1080p source??? - most probably 1080i deinterlaced).
