Default Cleaning a chamois ?

Any tips on cleaning a dirty chamois ?
Was going to put it in the washing machine but was advised against it and told not to use ant detergents as it ruins it, but tried warm water & ringing it out & its dirty as ever.....?

from the web...

When cleaning chamois leather rinse it in lukewarm water with a mild non-alkali soap, or mild detergent. Squeeze or use chamois wringer to remove excess water. Gently stretch chamois flannel, and hang in area protected from direct sunlight and intense heat. Take care not to over dry.

i use household soap (like imperial leather.. excuse the pun)

How cruel to stick it in a washing machine! Just use a hose and some dog shampoo or maybe some sheep dip?

I assume you meant this kind of chamois?

Isn't it easier to just buy a new one?

Get a microfibre waffle weave cloth for £5, can dry a whole car in 2 minutes without rinsing, then just shove it in the washing machine

I washed mine this weekend and put in it a bucket, sprinkled a bit of washing powder in, poured in some boiling water and left it to soak for a few hours.

When I poured the water out the bucket it was filthy, so it must have got a fair bit of dirt out!
