Bought a lovely (re cheap ) Kenwood kettle, have boiled it about 5-6 times now. Can't get rid of the plastic taste.

I bought a £5.48 kettle from tesco a while ago ,thermostat went after about 6 weeks and it boiled itself to death, you get what you pays for

That's the plasticising agents leaching out of the plastic into the hot water.
Repeated boiling just adds more plasticisers into the same wtaer.
Plasticisers are thought to cause sex changes in fish so beware - your **** may fall off!!
Bin it and get a steel one.
