Default Dam. Sky box has died!

Our sky box has died, and its now out of warranty

I was told that i could buy a sky digital plus box and simply swop it over, is that correct? Or do I need to install a 2nd feed? I think sky digital plus requires 2 feeds from the dish, to record a different channel to the one currently being viewed

Is that correct? or do i have to stick to the old digital box

I'm checking ebay out, reckon loads will be up when HD finally arrives.

You also need to upgrade your dish if you want sky plus

phone them, ask for a service- when they say £60 say "oh, forget it then - i dont watch it that much...how do i cancel"

they will send a free engineer and they replace the box if they cant fix it.

just got my new box after 4 years last weekend.

hold it there!!!
same thing happened to me last year what i did was get sky plus didnt have to change the dish or anything and then put the box that you have now in my mums bedroom and then got the guy to put a magic eye in my bedroom for 50 quid. sky plus is far better you can tape anything you want and watch it when you want

hope that helps

if you 'look' there will be now more than one cable coming out of your dish??? so therefore they MUST have changed something ( the LNB).. and i think you were ripped off with the eye.. officially its £85 but *most* engineers do them for £30 -£40.

How much then mate? (Is this a normal sky digi box or a sky+?)

So it sounds like I can do it!! Running a new cable from the dish to the box will be easy, the dish is on a flat roof.

Not mentioned but presume you are aware you'll need to contact Sky and get them to activate Sky plus on your account plus there is a monthly charge unless you are on the premium packages.
Unless you've already got it you'll need a new LNB as already mentioned as well as the box itself - tbh I doubt that they'll take to kindly to you installing yourself but may offer you free installation anyway..

I thought two cables from the dish were needed when you had sky+?

Also what is an eye? does it let you watch sky in another room and change channels also?
