Question Any Radiohead fans?

Is "The Bends" a typical Radiohead cd. I've never been a Radiohead fan until i heard this.

1st album - pablo honey - good
2nd - The Bends - their best album easily
3rd - OK computer - OK, pretty good
The rest since have been a departure, almost a different band, experimental so often not working but some good songs here and there. tbh, I've lost interest in them since ok computer.

So basically, if you like the bends, you'll prob like pablo honey and ok computer. However, it gives no indication as to whether you'll like their later stuff.

The bends is a classic. Some awesome tracks. Street Spirit, Fake Plastic Trees, The bends, high and dry, Just. would be in my top 5.

Also Creep is fantastic as well.

Each album is a departure from the next. I got into Radiohead when Creep came out and bought Pablo Honey. I was a skint student when The Bends came out so never listened to it then got OK Computer when it was released and couldn't understand how they got from Pablo --> Computer. On listening to The Bends it fills the gap nicely.

Everything post-OK is a bit Marmite, TBH, but I like their new stuff a lot.

I'm a massive fan of the first three albums, and I like isolated songs off the later ones, eg "Pyramid Song", which is a w*rk of genius - I still can't get the time signature to that.

Lozenge of Love on the My Iron Lung ep is the most moving tune ( ) in my collection. Loved the first three albums and said ep and 'appreciated' the later ones.

Kid-A and Amnesiac are a bit difficult to get into but worth the effort. The Bends and OK Computer are the most popular.

Some EP's are worth buying too, like How's my Driving

Fair play to them for not resting on their laurels, I say. No-one ever took music to a new area by doing stuff that the fans like. They may have fooked-up by going into these areas, but the history of music might look back on these later albums and show they were a crucial link to the next artistic shift. Or they might even become classics in their own right. Whether you can listen to them or not, the quality of the later tracks shines through whenever they are used as incidental music on TV dramas. The atmosphere they create can be stunning.

Absolutely. I personally think their live performances of anything post-OK Comuter are awesome. Everything in it's Right Place live is amazing, what with live sampling/looping giving each performance it's own personality in a way that traditional intruments could only dream of.

Yeah must agree they are awesome live, saw them at Victoria Park a few years back in a strange marquee type affair and they were excellent, so much passion put into the music. Dead impressed.

Last saw them at Earls Ct a couple of years ago, one of my mates was lucky enough to have seen them last week at Hammersmith Palais, they did a 23 track set !! A lot of the new stuff is suppossed to be "Bends" like, but they said that about Amnesiac and Kid A both hard work albums with some gems on them, keep me going back, I really enjoyed Hail To The Thief, I still think their finist moment is OK and Bends, two very personal albums to me, some absolutely stunning stuff on OK, Subterranean Homesick Alien, The Tourist, Exit Music, Paranoid Android, never got my head around Fitter Happier.

Anyone know when the new album is coming out ?
