Bought the Mrs one for Mothers Day after we had been looking at them for ages. Hers has grown really well since to the point it needs repotting already so I got one yesterday as well, seem to be quite addictive once you see they are growing, have to trim them back and then they flower etc. They get a water bath everyday for 2-5 minutes and are kept on a sunlit windowsill during the day. Both are only small trees still. One is a Tree of a Thousand Stars and the other a Japanese Holly tree.
What have others got or grown before? Got any pics of your creations?
Also anyone created one from scratch from a clipping and designed the shape themselves with wire etc?
Went to a Japanese Garden nursery yesterday and the outdoor bonsai trees are amazing (with an amazing price tag too!)
The bloke does landscape gardening and his examples at his nursery were just fantastic, beautiful rockeries with streams and numerous ponds. If only money was no object!

I am in the process of growing from seed, it has taken a few weeks now and i have two shoots
Cant wait for them to get a little bigger so i can get the wire out and mold them into my own shape.

I've got a few around - couple in my back garden and a couple kept over at my folks place. I've grown my own from seed and bought others.
Maples (Acer's) are the most popular as the leaves will scale down in size (as long as you keep the roots clipped). Trees like oaks, look stunning in the winter, with no leaves, but look at bit odd in the summer, as the leaves stay the same size.
If you want to do indoor bonsai, then you can do various sub-tropical trees. Most bonsai are better kept outside, as this is their natural environment. Remember to water them every day throughout the summer - they drink ferocious amounts of water!
The best bonsai I've seen in the UK have been created by a chap called Peter Chan. Have a look at his website Herons Bonsai

Thanks Chris. The first thing we learnt was to give them a water bath every day. The bloke in the shop said you can't over water them so we decided every day to be on the safe side. So far its worked wonders on the Mrs one. Its now in flower and has grown loads and has had to be trimmed back already and repotted today.
The outdoor ones looked very good but were very expensive and with the number of cats we have locally that would either chew them or cr4p on them plus our rabbits an outside bonsai proabaly wouldn't fare too well.
This is the specialist local to us who has some amazing outdoor bonsai trees http://www.buildajapanesegarden.com/

Nice site that ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
My favourite from Peter Chan's site:

His trees are works of art - I've never seen anything like them. Some of them are several hundred years old and worth thousands. If you do make a trip to see them (he's got 7 acres!), take your credit card, as you will end up buying one
