have the chance off getting a cutting off one from a friend, just wonder if a cutting off such a plant will actually grow and what exactly do I need to cut off the original plant to have any sort off sucuss in getting it to grow ??
any advice from those in the know would as always be very much appreciatted.

This year's soft shoots will root readily dipped in rooting compound and placed in a suitable compost.. Do a tinternet search for the technique, I can't be arsed to describe it. ![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
It'll take you years to get a decent plant that way, though... they're quite slow growing.

There are a couple in my local centre going for even more than that!
Mind you the last one I bought was £20.
Most maples like acid (high pH) soil - red maples especially. Get some ericaseous compost or soil improver from the garden centre. That will help the cutting.
