when there is a hosepipe ban on?

I saw some ******** watering his grass last night with a hose and it got me wondering. What is to stop you from using a hose? I can't see anyone actually enforcing the ban.

Any ideas?

I wouldn't do anything , the problem is mostly of the water companies making and I certainly would not do anything to assist them in making other folks suffer for their inefficiencies

You could always try just minding your own ******* business rather than being a busy bodying little snitch (assuming of course you were planning to rat on said individual).

The way I look at it is this, the water companies apply these type of bans due to their own inability to reduce wastage. If I'm paying them a ******* fortune in water rates I'll use as much of the ******* stuff as I damn well please*

*although I don't live in a 'hosepipe ban' area myself if I did then my garden would be watered as often as I deemed fit, likewise my swimming pool kept filled etc etc

Turn his tap off when he's not looking.

I'd have a polite chat with the bloke and explain the situation as it's just possible that he's unaware of the ban on hosepipes. At the end of the day you don't want to antagonise him but he should be doing his part and watering the garden with a watering can is easily done, albeit taking longer.

Throw a brick through his window and shout out "You obviously think rules are there to be broken".

you report it, they get a letter saying dont do it again, you report it a again they get a letter saying do it again and you're in trouble, report them again and they MAY be prosecuted.

therefore everyone may as well water their gardens as the chance of being caught, being reported and then being done is very slim.

its all a nonsense anyway- i cant water my flowers for 5 mins but i can fill my swimming pool over 3 days 24/7 hose running!

That about sums up what I'd thought It seems pointless to me because nobody is going to go to the effort to enforce it.

Maybe they should just fix the leaks instead

but it doesnt really need enforcing to work....most people arent using their hoses. and thats enough for now.

the effort of prosecuting 1 person is in no way related to the "crime" of running a hose, in effect - its a volantary rule.

Thought the authorities could always spot the lush tropical garden amongst the rest of our brown scorched scraggy lawns.

Like the bloke caught for growing cannibis in the loft.Only snow free roof following a snowfall.

It's amusing how we choose to cherry pick the laws to suit ourselves (obviously)

So do we consider this hose pipe ban flouter a threat to our way of life ? will our children suffer, or our childrens children ?

I wonder if he's also a menace to society with his car ? is he driving illegally, and technically without insurance, without a catalytic converter........

God forbid !

In the great scheme of things, it sounds pretty bl00dy petty to me................

The hose pipe ban is a joke. I have to drag my hose to the back of our garden and then put it in a watering can and then spread among our garden.

Its a right pain as we've just had our garden landscaped so it needs loads of watering at the moment.

I know for a fact that our next door neighbour would report me given the chance so I can't take the risk.

If you did go ahead and report it (I wouldn't as I don't agree with the reasons why there is a ban on) then I doubt anything will happen.
If it was investigated how would you prove it if he said he never used his hosepipe ? Photo's ? Another witness ?
Then he could claim you were using yours etc and it all gets a bit silly.

By that logic, everyone who breaks the speed limit is a ********. Personally, I'd get on with my own life, rather than bothering to report someone for such a trivial matter.

Incidentally, Blair's garden is being watered with a hose, but it's OK because a 'bowser' is being used. If anyone wants to take a leaf out of his book, just connect your hose to the bath tap. If some busybody 'shops' you, just say you were recycling your dirty bathwater

Now mind your own business and stop walking past my house ....

Default Water shortage caused by Water companies!

See the attached link regarding the sale of reservoirs by Thames water to make a quick buck- http://www.guardian.co.uk/water/story/0,,1745556,00.html

Also the infrastructure leaks about 915 million litres per day

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4681211.stm

And they push up prices to improve the supply.
That's like a garage loosing petrol from its tanks and charging drivers for it.

Fair point but given my experience of disputes with neighbours, I've normally gone in with both guns blazing which has led to some amazing feuds over the years, hence why most people think I'm a grumpy old man. However, in my dotage I am trying to adopt a more co-operative approach and then if that doesn't happen - let war commence. The only caveat being that with the increasingly stupid laws that are passed and the way they are implemented, it seems that the small minded PC types are in the ascendance so I'd probably end up with an ASBO being slapped on me.

The ban is crap, waste of time!
Know of someone who purchased one of those big paddling pools, water board said they could still use there hosepipe, at the cost of £55! It cant be such a shortage if they have plenty to sell!!
