Default Getting a registration document

'Lo folks, wonder if anyone knows how to solve this one...

I've recently recovered a motorbike from a skip. Just a little field bike, but someone has come along wanting to buy it and offering stupid money.

Trouble is it doesn't have a number plate or registration document and the previous owner has died. Now I know it isn't nicked but I need to be able to prove it if I'm going to sell it.

Any idea how I can get a registration number and V5 for it based just on the frame number?

Cheers,

SB

write to the dvla telling them your "story" and hope the dead bloke in the skip hasn't got any angry relatives .

Seriously - just ring the dvla - I'm sure they'll sort you out - eventually

Looking at the juxtaposition of these two facts, are you sure there isn't 5kg of coke in the fuel tank or something?

just sell it, if it was in a skip it was meant to be thrown away. Just remove the number plate if its still attached and flog it to the plonker, sorry chap

I like dogs, yes... but I prefer caravans

I know it sounds like a well dodgy deal but it is all kosher. It was in the skip because it had been in the person's garage for 15 years and their kids are clearing it out now. He hadn't ridden it for at least 5 before that and it's fallen into disrepair. In particular it has no registration plate at all - I have no idea what the number plate was even.

The buyer wants to take it home. To France. And for that he needs a registration document of some sort...

It may just be more hassle than it's worth. But I'd like it to go somewhere that it will get restored and used rather than just rusting away and/or getting demolished as a field bike. Plus the cash will be handy - have you seen how much a towbar is for an M5?

Tell him to take it apart before he takes it to france, it's just a pile of bits then, not a vehicle that he'll need a certifate for....... i would think anyway!

If you had permission to remove the bike from the skip, then just go back and ask for the documents off the person. If you didn't ask permission, keep schtum as you have just admitted theft on a public BBS!

Tsk, Olly

Of course I had permission, but the original owner is deceased and has been for some time. His children neither know nor care about the registration document, they just wanted the garage emptying...
