I am looking to buy a forklift, can anyone give me an idea of running costs such as yearly servicing and inspections?

Why on earth would you want to buy a forklift? They aren't the handiest things for getting around on (or in!)
Have a look at leasing one, my old work used to lease 10 and apparently they got a good deal.

I was just looking for a ball park figure, machine is about 10 years old is made by Lansing Bagnal and its electric, has no faults as I know of would just need a greese and check over etc etc
Dont believe in leasing anything, the only reason companies lease things is to make money! I would rather buy something and know it belonged to me.

You should be able to pick up a decent one for that sort of age. Any mechanic can have a look at it for you, the only thing is where would you get any spares from etc etc.
I'm not sure you'd even need a qualified mechanic looking at it, I used to do a lot of the maintenance work on our old electric one, first works in the morning etc etc

the batteries can last sometimes only 2 years and i paid £350 for one a couple of years ago
maintence contracts are 100-150 per year and you have to have them serviced to satisfy your insurance company if you <do it through the books>
although if your reasonable with DIY they aren't too bad to mess about with one
battery charger packed up and was £800
you can pick up 2nd hand ones cheap just let a 6 year old machine go for under £1000 and are 10k new !!!
Just not sure if they are a street cred as a scooby though

Inspections come under LOLER regulations. We charge £50 + travel rate/mileage for a fork lift LOLER inspection. As mentioned here, get it looked at first before you buy.
Proby.
PS Inspection is 12 monthly, unless you are lifting persons (in a basket of course!), then its 6 monthly.

£50 + Travel sounds like a bargain to me, I guess that just means some one qualified checking over the basics to make sure it was safe to operate. I think I will pay the £50 for piece of mind!
Dont want the chain braking and it droping on my head!
I have been assured batteries have been replaced recently, I go the machine at a good price so will spend a little bit on a service

The reason the UK market is dominated by leasing deals goes back to the '80s when the industry was struggling and in an attempt to stimulate market growth, many of the companies and in particular Linde (Lansing Bagnall as it was then) developed some amazing deals which saw a significant upsurge in sales. Today the UK market is left with that legacy, which from an accounting perspective is very attractive.
Using an electric truck is the most expensive option, fuel wise, but if you can provide me with your electricity rate I can work out your running costs for you and compare them to LPG and diesel.
