Labour - Tackling Crime and bringing it down from Tory levels!!
How the British Crime Survey (BCS) works
For a variety of reasons, people do not always report crimes to the police - which means they don't get reflected in police recorded crime figures.
The British Crime Survey (BCS) asks people about their actual experiences - and so gives us a more accurate picture of crime levels and trends across England & Wales.
Note: The BCS does not include crimes against businesses or commercial property.
According to the BCS:
In 2004/05 the total number of crimes in England and Wales was around 10,850,000.
Total crime peaked in 1995, and has since fallen by 44%.
In 2004/05 nearly 24% of the population were the victim of some type of crime.
This has fallen from a high in 1995 of nearly 40% of the population.
So, under the Tossy Tories we had a massive rising crime wave ... in 1997 Labour took a grip of it, was tough on crime and has now brought it down to levels lower than in 1981!!!
Amazing achievment - and only one of many ......... to the greatest leader the country has seen in 60 years!!!
ScoobyNet salutes you Tony!!

I saw an article in the Economist this week that tends to back this up:
http://www.economist.com/displaystor..._id=E1_SDRVNSS
It's the fear of crime, stupid
Nine years as prime minister have if anything reinforced his convictions, both political and moral. Nothing does more to reassure Mr Blair that he is “on the right side of the argument” than when his critics in the legal establishment accuse him of pandering to the punitive agenda of tabloid newspapers and surrendering to working-class authoritarian prejudices.
Whenever Mr Blair sallies forth from Downing Street to meet some real people, his office asks in advance what they would most like to talk to him about. Almost invariably anti-social behaviour and crime will be at the top of their agenda. Never mind that figures show most sorts of recorded crime have been in decline for a decade. As Mr Blair said earlier this year, “It is not about statistics, it is about how people feel...the fear of crime is as important in some respects as crime itself.”
Therein lies Mr Blair's problem. Being “on the right side” of this particular argument has served him well. But if a cynical, fearful public concludes that he has about as much chance of changing the legal system for the better after all his years in office as England have of winning the World Cup, it's an argument that may have become self-defeating.

What a load of Bolocks,, Pete.
What about the rise in serious assaults
Also all these peodo's getting of scot free,as a result of labour not cracking down on the judges,CPS
All the leinient sentences to Murderers, and thieving scum slap on the wrists is all they get
TB's police force is only intrested in Motorists who do 32mph in 30 zones
as a result of this the more serious crimes get less attention
New Labour=New crime wave ,and its spiralling out of control and Labour NEED to crack down on it NOW

The problem that Labour has is that they are not good at blowing their own trumpet ..... they have taken this country from the depths of despair under the Tories to a place of crime reducing hope!!
And thats why they are still in power, and will remain in power .... the Tories offer what??? A leader who is trying desperately to BE Tony Blair!!!
Again, ScoobyNet Salutes you Tony!!

In 2004/05 the total number of violent offences in England and Wales was 2,412,000.
These include:
401,000 incidents of domestic violence
828,000 incidents where the offender was an acquaintance
836,000 incidents where the offender was a stranger
347,000 incidents of mugging
Violent crime has fallen by 43% since its peak in 1995 and has remained relatively stable since 2000.
In 2004/05, 3.6% of people experienced a violent incident, half of which resulted in no injury.
Violent Crime is FALLING!!!!!!

Facts huh? You want some facts?
After the best part of 10 years in office, Tony Blair has finally decided to take the streets back from the criminals. Why all the rush?
The man who famously promised to be "tough on crime and tough on the causes of crime" has seen crime go through the roof on his watch.
Under New Labour violent crime has gone up by 400 per cent. Rape has increased by 100 per cent. Murder has increased by 35 per cent. In this formerly safe and peaceful land, on average two or three people now get killed every day.
But the statistics, damning though they are, do not tell the whole story. Because what you feel in the streets of our country is not that the number of crimes has gone up, but that the very nature of crime has changed. Violent crime is crueller, more mindless and infinitely more extreme than it ever was.
What would once have been a messy scrap with a few right-handers thrown - by rival kids brawling outside the school gates, by strangers suddenly falling out on public transport - now results in a murder investigation.
The gap between Blair's words and his deeds is of Grand Canyon proportions. We have had 40 Labour bills on law and order, we have had madcap schemes galore - what happened to the idea of getting John Prescott to frogmarch yobs to cashpoint machines for on-the-spot fines? - and none of it has done any good.
Every day in Blair's Britain there are crimes to break your heart. A blind man gets mugged. A medical student is stabbed to death while CCTV cameras impassively watch. A promising young footballer, loved by everyone who knows him, is knifed to death when he should be doing his homework.
Blair blames everyone but himself for the boom in violent crime. He blames soft courts. He blames the break-up of the nuclear family. He blames mass migration and he blames Mars being in alignment with Aquarius (his wife told him that was the problem).

the results are not fiddled mate....
this has come about because 60 fu**in % of this country does not speak or understand english. When asked, the leeches could only shrug thier shoulders as they couldnt understand. Hence the drop in reported and none reported crimes.

Source?
To point out the mildly obvious (well, to everyone except the SN Lynch Mob), the reporting of the first two there has changed a lot in ten years. The definition of "violent crime" has been widened massively - did you know that if I was to tap you on the shoulder, that would be listed as a "violent crime"? The rape figures again almost certainly mainly represent a greater willingness for victims to come forward. As for the murder, I'll conceed that drug wars have increased the murder rate in certain areas, but I'd like to see some reliable figures to justify that 35% figure.

Of course mass migration increases crime - not everyone is going to be a peace-loving plumber from Poland. The newcomers will invariably include the dregs of the world - but perhaps we should have thought of that before we opened our borders and dropped our drawers for the great EU experiment. Whoops. Too late now.

Not been on scoobynet long.I do seem to have read the same thread 6 million times under a different title though.Still can't resist a reply though
"For a variety of reasons, people do not always report crimes to the police - which means they don't get reflected in police recorded crime figures."
This quote from original post sums it up.You can only find policeman policing football matches or adding up their Gatso till takings.Fat chance of reporting it or getting action if you do.
Lost absolute faith in the police. Thanks for that TB.I salute you

I read that as violent crime going from a steady rate of around 300000 per annum in the mid nineties to about 1.2 million today.
You're right. The graph does say it all.

You missed this bit
For a variety of reasons, people do not always report crimes to the police, and those crimes are therefore not included in police recorded crime statistics.
In addition, the rules that the police follow when recording crimes have changed over the years, meaning it is often difficult to track real changes in crime over time. (See 'Changes in how police record crime'.)
With a total sample size of approximately 45,000 interviews for the most recent 2004/05 survey, the BCS is considered the most authoritative source for the assessment of crime levels ion England and Wales.
While it does not claim to count all crimes that occur in England and Wales, it does provide a consistent measure of trends from one year to the next.
The graph doesn't represent recorded crime so changes in recording and reporting practice don't come into it.

As ever PSL comes up with a typical NL style misrepresentation of the real facts. The only reason he comes out with this rubbish is in an effort to create a long thread for his own satisfaction. It is difficult to believe that even he is so mindlessly stupid as to believe what he posts here.
