I might 'in the near future' be able to provide a Dell poweredge server with a possiable dual (load balanced, 1Mb each) cable modem links.
Mine runs out of steam with 5-6 users because the uplink is saturated. The machine is a 400Mhz 280Meg (200 allicated to HL server) running on Linux. The machine is idle almost 80% of the time with 4-6 people on the server.
I NEED more bandwidth
Whats the uplink on your dual cablemodems?
Let me know if you need any help with tweaking / configuring this kit if it becomes avalible.

Yes he does, but in his dreams, he's about to get them to safety when all of a sudden he feels like he's trying to run through water and hears the hostages chant 'Beware the lag, beware the lag', then he wakes up in a cold sweat and throws his 56k modem against the wall.

Think norm killed two CTs in the last second to go 20-13 and beat me

Steve It may be worth trying a different pay-as-you-go ISP just for [STi] C/s itll only be a couple of quid - That's less than a bag of BBQ charcoal

deano : i was using a pay as u go isp tonite and BT free.
i have always had 2 isp's and have always tried the pay one if bt is down or totally crap.
dont seem to make much of a difference though.
simple fact is 56k is no longer fun / fair / acceptable for online gaming.
i've bee playing online since quake / quakeworld etc and with the disparity in connections available geographically and financially online gaming imho is going rapidly downhill and is not a patch fun wise on what it used to be several years ago.

I'm not sure but I think you might be right, I may have just pipped you by one frag (ahem, not that it's about deathmatch)
But I must admit I did laugh as the server kicked us off thinking (If I just got 2 kills then we're either level or I pipped you by one )
I found it that funny that I went and regailed the missus with the story (even setting the scene etc) told the story for about a couple of minutes and she said ........................Can you fill my wine glass ? Not interested at all, they just dont get it do they ?
Good game though,, it's surprising how much fun you can have with just 4-6 people who only want to play the game as opposed to 20 + people on public servers who just want to annoy each other.
It amazed me how King Ping manages to switch from primary to secondary without a pause in his firing pattern, he's like bl00dy Robocop ! Most times I run out of ammo and try to switch to pistols I end up waving a flashbang at someone before they pop a cap in my a$$
