What to do in Birmingham?
I have a free hotel in Birmingham on Sunday and Monday in the centre of Birmingham. Is there anything to keep me and my wife amused for a couple of days?
I seem to remember there being some HUGE chinese restaurants anyone tell me which one to go to?
Any good places to go, visit or things to do (anywhere to hire a rowing boat?) to keep myself out of mischief?

Seeing as its so god dam hot I thought I might go for a trip on the river or lake, I went over a bridge yesterday in Oxford and there were lots of people lounging around in boats, looked good to me.
I have not actually been in to the centre for about 15 years but I drive past fort dunlop every couple of days.

To the best of my knowledge, the Mander Centre is in wolverhampton?
The Canal Basis/Broad Street is an entertainment 'centre', about 1/2 mile square.
The B'ham theatre is along side it as is a world class Symphoney Hall.
By the adjacent Town Hall is a killer Art Gallery and a facinating Natural/Technical meuseum (I'm an engineer, sorry)
There are classy and trash shops as with every city, but the centre is a lively place.
The 'language' above is mean't to be Black country...so wrong place again, tut tut.
My wife comes from Tipton and she dosen't talk like that, and I'm a Brummy and neither do I (I'm told) and I was bought-up in the inner city.
If you look carefully, use the tourist centre/hotel locals; you will have a great time from mild to wild.
Giving the Jewery Quarter a miss is a shame but VERY understandable, unless it is a 'special' hotel break.....

Not been to brum in years but hooters followed by legs eleven was always a good night of food and entertainment, although you may need to find something else for the misses to do.

Why slagg B'ham?
Unless you have been there recently you would never know the place anymore.
If you want a good time in Brum you can find it, if you want to have a bad time go somewhere unknown without some 'reasearch'.
Diamond shops in the quarter? Does anyone really know how many there are ?
Graham.

The Mailbox has some good restaurants and expensive shopping.
Just five mins walk along the canal from Brindley Place.
The Ikon gallery is worth a visit too. It's free as well.

Daytime
Botanical Gardens
sealife centre
Treat her to a massage/treatment at Obession (Mailbox)
back to backs (National Trust inner city victorian life type thing supposed to be v good)
Aston Hall
try http://www.birmingham.org.uk/
Dinner
Bank (brindley place)
Jessicas - edgbaston
Rajdoot - Indian (St Pauls Sq)
Bucklemaker - best food in the world (St Pauls Sq)
Barton Arms - supurb thai (newtown - complete dump get a taxi for gawds sake but highly recommended)
le petit blanc (brindley place)
If you want something more casual for drinks and dinner but still civilised try the green rooms http://www.greenroomcafebar.co.uk/ or Bar estilo at mailbox - the best tapas in brum and the rioja is fabulous.
Drinks
all-bar-one brindley place
apres - summer row
bacchus - new street - nice and very unusual but its underground so you're not going to see much of a nice evening
Personally Id stay away from Broad Street, apart from the lounge, and whatever you do, dont go to Tin Tins (chinese) in brindley place
And wherever you eat, make sure you book - even on a sunday night
enjoy

Spent sunday in the Sea Life centre & lounging in Brindley Place - a nice day out.
They have spent countless MILLIONS on the centre of Brum - mind you it needed it
Everytime I go now they've built a new trendy bit!
