At what point do Orange offer free phone upgrades?
Having slaved over Ebay in order to get the phone my GF has been after for her birthday, there alot of people selling these phones as "Unwanted Upgrades".
How come these people get these upgrades? Is it at the end of a contract? I thought it was 3 months towards the end of your current contract but when I look on the website at upgrades, they want to charge me £150 irrespective of the phone.
Anyone?

i have 2 Orange phones both on contract. i recently upgraded one phone for free (had a limited choice, and could have paid for a better handset). other contract expires in a month or so, so may upgrade depending on whats available. also considering cancelling as i no longer have a use for 2 phones...

Im pretty sure its at the end of the contract you get an upgrade.
In effect its not a free upgrade - you are basically paying for the handset monthly - taking the upgrade just ties you into another 12 or 18 month contract with the service provider in effect.

Personally, I'm not sure if I would stay with orange as I think there internet usage allowances are a bit expensive.

You can keep your number too if you cancel your contract, and request a PAYG sim with the same number (this is free), then start a new contract taking that number with you.
You can get totally free contracts now - ie 12months free line rental, and a free handset...

Im with Orange and could not upgrade until after 9 months on a 12 month contact. I've resigned with a stonking deal (retention contract) after complaining.
Customer service is **** and waiting 15-20 minutes on hold everytime I called though.

only time they weren't helpful was when my son had a problem with his PAYG mobile - they wouldn't speak to me as i wasn't the account holder - they expected a 10 year old to call!!

Just got the hottest new device free from Orange even though it is not available yet
SPV 3100.
Call up and select disconnections - they answer the phone a lot faster - its their proper Customer Relations unit - they will help you.
Easier if you are out of contract.

i have 4 phones from Orange, and they would let my boys register them as they were under 16 so i had to
Mind you there customer services are great, one of my boys droped his phone in the canal the other day (wants to upgrade) called Orange, i already had a spare unregistered sim and an old NOKIA 3220 well they re regeisted the sim with his old number and credit and was back up and running within 24hrs

Next question is what to upgrade to.
I've broken a button on my Nokia 6230 and thought it was about time I upgraded anyway (I've had it since they were introduced)
Looked on the orange shop website but the Samsung D900 is out of stock, also the reviews of it are dissuading me because of the touch screen is apparently finicky ?
Don't know what to get now.
What do you think?
No way will I get an erricson as my old dear has one of those and it drives me up the wall, nearly every function is the exact opposite of a Nokia (I'm kinda used to Nokias now having had one type or another since about 1995 when I bought my first 2110 housebrick. )

Things are looking up...
It appears it's the E900 that has the touch screen
The D900 hasn't.
Looks like it's a deal then.....
Andy
Still not getting an Erricson

Having shopped about - it was easiest the lowest cost deal for that call volume by £500 over the contract period (18 months).
Maybe they just don't like you

I'm with orange and my up grade isn't due till November, had the Samsung D600 (pile of crap), thought I'd try for an early up grade, walked out with the new Sony Ericsson W810i (for free), unlimited texts every month, 500 minutes anytime/cross network all for £35 a month!!..
