Default 32" Panasonic CRT tubes going / discolouration problem

My parents have a two year old Panasonic 32" telly, and the tubes seem to be going, get green stripe on the left and red patches in the right corners, can only be seen on light-ish pictures, but is quite bad.

Tried moving the speakers and no difference, so it must be the tubes????

Is this serviceable / repairable or will it need replacing?

It cost me almost a grand in late 2004......

It is most likely to be the degauss circuit which has failed, magnetising the screen. This distorts the beam landing on the correct phosphurs giving wrong colours, escpecially in the corners. Cheap fix usually, unlikley to be the tube.

Just buy another one, people will be offloading them to buy LCD's, therefore there should be some bargain CRTS around.

Turns out that it wasn't a technical issue at all. My Dad had set the contrast to MAX!!!!! I have now adjusted the contrast, and all is good again! It was so simple it didn't occur to me to check that! Thanks for the reply Andy, cause that lead me on to some pretty good sites for future!

Your welcome, by turning up the contrast to maximum can heat up the shadow mask, causing it to bend and again distort the beam landing, glad it was only customer finger problem
