I want to live in France. Just come back from my jollies, two weeks in Languedoc, and could live there for ever. Pace of life so much slower, healthy eating, sun shine, afternoon naps, people seem to live for ever. Any views. Where would you want to live??

Haven't been to France, yet, but it does look lovely and will visit soon. On virtual appearance it would be a contender, but top of my list would be New Zealand. They speak the right language, drive on the correct side of the road, there aren't many of them in a country as big as England, and scenicly it looks much more beautiful and dramatic.

And me.
Not road tax, 2 year MOT, cheaper diesel, cheaper council tax, decent neighbours, cheaper car insurance (compared to Manchester anyway), I have free phone calls anywhere with my ADSL deal (not skype like), cheap beer and wine
But cars are dearer secondhand, not as much choice for eating out, cant eat out when you want, hard to grasp language, sick of cutting the grass (cows on it now!), boredom (plenty)
But apart from that its pretty good.
Got a house for sale there if anyones interested.
Renovated farmhouse, over 2 acres, great location, blah blah £112,000

I've mentioned it in other threads, but it's certainly my plan to retire out to France. Looking at places at the moment, 7000 m2 plot with a old shed on it, ripe for building a nice little chateau on, not bad at E25,000

We bought out there 4 years ago, initially as a holiday home, but eventually to retire to, about 30 miles SW of Limoges, and in the "Parc Naturel Regional du Limousin-Perigord".
Fantastic. Lovely scenery, empty roads, good food, cheap drink.
House is an old farmhouse, which we paid £32000 for, including two huge barns and 2000 sq m of land.

Ive been here about 6 months now and its the best thing I ever did.
A nice wee farm in the Tarn, near Albi and Castres. The only downside so far is ADSL is unavailable for now due to our location, but should be coming by the end fo the year.
Im back in Scotland for a few weeks just now and it sucks donkey ***. Cold, dirty, rude people, everyone is too busy working to enjoy anything........
I cant wait to get back.

Aye, I still occasionally find myself striding along at a great rate as everyone does in the UK to avoid being jostled and pushed on the street, and suddenly realise where I am and that no-one is in a hurry, including myself!
Im not using my own pc just now so dont have any photos here, but yes, Albi cathedral is stunning!

I also have almost exactly the same pic as above from the car going over the Millau viaduct!

We lived in Brittany for a year back in 2003/2004. My parents also live there and have been there 4 years.
I loved our 300 year old farmhouse & gite but sadly Brittany just wasn't the place for us. The Breton people are lovely but it just didn't offer us enough to sustain a long term life.
Running 1 gite doesn't make anywhere near enough money to survive on, dispite property being cheap you still have bills to pay and food to buy, fortunatly hubby was also working from home so the gite was more my project.
Also Brittany is now over run with British now, when Mum & Dad first moved over, there were hardly any, now every other car has UK plates! It is also populated by retired folk, which makes for a nice quite life. Great apart from our young son not having any playmates.
Still, we had a great time, learnt loads, made good money on the sale and now know that Brittany isn't for us!
Didn't miss the UK for a second though, and the plan after Japan is most likely going to take us to Spain (NOT the costas or the rural south!!) We'll be looking for somewhere with very little in the way of expats so it'll probably be northern Spain.
We're looking at Spain as the Spanish seem more child friendly in terms of socialising outside of the home - they do tend to gather in the village square. Something the Breton people don't seem to do.
Anyway, all I know is we won't be returning to the UK and for those who are thinking about leaving the UK - You'll have a great time if you do go - even if it's not forever!

We lived in France(see location in user cp) for a year, whilst sorting the place out, and hope to go back for good in the next few years. It was the best year i've ever had. Peace, tranquility, great neighbours, great food and beer and best of all, no stress

Ireland for me. Co. Tipperary/Waterford borders on the Comeraghs. We have 18 acres out there and am going out next week for surveys and plans for the future house.
Absolutely stunning views, far away from the hustle and bustle yet close enough to the nearest town 5k away.
Will get some pics next week.
