Default Dam Busters

Cool, Peter Jackson is going to film a remake of this classic.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/5301998.stm

I wonder if they'll change the name of Guy Gibson's dog...

Is it gonna be the true story of how an american squadron of B-17s destroyed the dams to cripple the german war effort which enabled the american invasion of europe in 1944?

nah sorry... would much rather see the Lancaster take to the skies again.
My Grandad used to be a flight engineer in one during the war... unfortunately he wasn't part of the dambuster squadron.
But those huge lancaster planes always hold my interest.
I asked some questions a few years back on certain sites, and i even have copies of the flight records of the actual dambuster raids.... makes for really interesting reading!

the vulcan is a fascinating plane, and a shame it's been grounded.... used to have apic of one in flight on my bedroom wall when i was a young lass !

I almost crashed my car one time when driving past East Midlands airport - A Lancaster and a Spitfire flew overhead. Right overhead - I heard them well before I saw them and I was like a little schoolkid watching as they went over.

When my elder brother had his passing out parade in the RAF we had a Vulcan bomber fly right over our heads. No one knew it was coming as it came from behind us and frankly scared the carp out of everyone in the stands. God it was LOUD!

I used to keep bees about 10 years ago. One sunny saturday morning I was standing on my own in the middle of a field working on my beehives, miles from anywhere. Out of nowhere the BoB memorial flight appeared and flew over where I was standing. Not sure why but I started waving (bear in mind I'm pretty visible wearing a white beeker suit in the middle of a green field) as they approached. The Spitfire pilot waved back by dropping down a few hundred feet and waggling his wings from side to side as he flew overhead.

It was the coolest thing I'd ever seen, it felt like I'd gone back in time or something.

But Winston Churchill was white, Guy Gibson's dog was a black Labrador, maybe they'll call it Nelson (Mandella).

Co-incidence 2 suggested dogs names Winston and Nelson, both my dogs are Winston and Nelson (winston has passed away now) but Nelson is named after Winston Churchills cat not Mandella

Avro Shakletons are still flying arent they? The Shackleton was/is essentially a Lancaster so live action shouldnt be out of the question. I wonder if theyll use the Derwent dams again? Thatd be something to see as you come off the Snake.....

Speed Demoness

There is a Lancaster still flying from Coningsby with the Hurricane and the Spitfire as part on the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. I think that is right as I am sure you will agree that it should do since those aircraft are a very large part of the fact that you are living a comparatively free life today even despite the efforts of Billy Boy and his rather queer friends!

In the same way, the Vulcan deserves to fly again also. The reason for that is that you owe it the fact that you are still alive rather than having been nuked during the Cold War since we used it to deter the Eastern Bloc from attacking us and pretty successfully too I venture to say.

To change the name of Guy Gibson's dog would be yet another capitulation to the PC Plonkers who are dragging this country down the tubes!

Hi Leslie, that remonds me. I read the book 'Vulcan 607' at the weekend and was rivetted, very interesting story. Have you read it yet?

If you want, I'll send you my copy (for nothing), as I don't tend to re-read books again. Just drop me a PM with your address if you want it.

I wouldn't be to sure about it being unfortunate to be honest, otherwise there would have been a nearly 70% chance that you would never have met him

Cool

PS back on topic, I wanted to call our black cat Nigel, because that is the name they've dubbed over in the B & W film, but MrsD wouldn't let me

The genuine footage of 617 Squadron practising low level flying before the mission is awesome. That must have been fun for the tail gunner
