Default Goose Fair

Does anyone still go to this?

Unfortunately I'm being made to go tonight and I can't wait, the rain, the wind, the mud, the sensation of feeling like a bake bean packed into a tin and handing over a small sum of cash for a 30 sec ride.

There will be 5 of us going in my car so I'll be spending most of my time at the weekend cleaning the carpets.

Oh and do you still need to look out for pick pockets?

I think Goose fair has a bit of magic to it. I haven't been for a few years, but I used to love going straight after school. My old school was right next to goose fair up the hill, and we could just go down at lunch. I really enjoyed it.

You do of course get the chavs...but other than that I think it's fun

I went ( got dragged ) last night, seemed a lot smaller, I tended to stay on the bits on the park and ride car park so I didnt have to wade in the mud, the main reason I went i to sample the food but that didnt seem as good as previous years.

Used to go as a student in Nottingham.

Came back to campus, (Clifton) loaded with coconuts won on shooting, darts, etc stalls, and ate coconut for the next three weeks

Wink

'Cos in the middle ages, the people of Nottingham and the surrounding area would travel to the "Goose fair" to buy/trade for the goose which they would then fatten over the next three months to eat at Christmas.

Since travel was not as easy, many stayed overnight, and were fed, and played games etc at the fair.

Another fine old tradition being ruined by the criminal classes!

Went when I was a student. Walked from the town centre (didn't have a car at the time) but I wouldn't attempt to park anywhere around there - mayhem, mud, parking restrictions....
