The 747 at Hong Kong looks fun

Check this F-14 going supersonic over its carrier too!

I've been on a flight to HK's old airport, one of the coolest aproaches ever!

Standing in the one carpark at Heathrow is pretty cool for 747s "buzzing" you. Then 5seconds later you get the downdraft

Why are none of the carrier personnel ducking or covering their ears, or behaving in a way indicative of a plane flying 10 ft away from them?

I used to take the VC10 into Kai Tak quite often and the northerly sea approach was an easy one. The checkerboard approach was much more fun, but much better to complete the final turn a lot earlier that the 747 pilot. He must have got fixated on the checkerboard. There is a racetrack on the final approach which was always the best signal to turn towards the runway.

Cos they sit about 20ft away as the bloody thing takes off on full whack (exc reheats)!

It's hardly going to be a "shock" to them.

If it's a photchop then it's a good one, but it came from a website of plane geeks, where all the photochop pics are clearly labelled - and this wasn't labelled as so.

I think the distance is the confusing part. It looks like it's just about to touch the carrier - but an F-14 is a big plane, and probably a little further away than it looks. Also you can see from the angle that it is ascending, and from the vortices that it is pulling a positive G turn - ie it's turning to fly over the flight deck, not into it

I've see this several times and its not photoshopped. I even had the website ( on an old PC ) where the pilot, now retired ran through why he did it.

I used to work for Digital Equipment, and sat next to the guy who helped produce the Thrust SSC web-site (which got them the sponsorship to actually get the record). They produced a CD of that site (pics, vids etc. - and i have a copy) so i agree - fantastic footage

I have a huge poster signed by Richard Noble and Andy Green, when they were raising funds for SSC, i bought it for my eldest as a birthday pressy, its addressed to him personally, so he now has the autographs of the fastest men in the world

Nothing beats a jet burning up the ether at zero feet over your napper.

Tornados were cool as ****. We would se them go past fractionally before the sound wave rattled your knackers, deep joy
