Being about 2 years behind the times I am only just getting into youtube. I happen to be a fan of the late Roy Buchanan who was a fantastic blues/rock guitarist (IMHO). I didn't think there were many actual videos of him playing but guess what - plenty on youtube which makes me a very happy bunny.

Now when I get into youtube I see there are various options for registering and, I think, subscribing to various sections. What will this give me and is it worth it? I don't want to join anything just for a bunch of Newsletters.

Final question My plan is to identify my favourite videos and then burn them onto a disc so that I can watch them on TV thro' a DVD player. Is that feasible and, if it is, will the quality be so bad that it's not worth doing in the first place? TIA David

Judging from the overwhelming response to your thread David , I'd say go ahead and do your own thing and see what happens. After all, how much is a recordable c/dvd..........10p ? What have you got to lose?
Just a few hours of your time and maybe your temper when it doesn't pan out !

This site allows you to download youtube videos

http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php

They come down in some strange FLV format but there's links to converters on the site that will allow you to prepare files for putting on DVD, the quality is probably not going to be spectacular though

hi - thanks for the pointer to the Roy Buchanan tracks (bought a couple of his lp's in the '70's).

As stated above the youtube videos are rendered in flv format which requires Macromedia flashplayer to be viewed - this application probably isn't on your DVD player, so you'll need some software to convert to a format that your DVD player can read - WMA for example.

This app seems to do this;

I've played the youtube videos thru a 17inch xvga full screen and the pics are quite grainy, but the soundtrack's good being fed thru the CD input of my home theatre system (ie if it's just good sound you want just connect your pc audio out to your amplifier/AVR cd input)

Hey thanks guys. I'll have to get techno-kid (my son) on the software side of things.

Phil - nice to hear from someone who had heard of Roy Buchanan. I went to see him in his early days when I was in USA and he was playing in a sawdust type bar outside Washington DC Then saw him in London. To see some decent "picking" take a look at Roy's Blues (Part 2) and then, of course, Hey Joe. David
