I've subscribed to SKY Broadband Connect with the assurance that when the SKY network covers my area I'll get onto their better packages.
In the meantime, I'm on an (up to) 8 MB package.
I've been told that my BT line can only handle 1.5-2 MB due to location and distance from exchange.
I've just run a speed test and my "broadband" is working at an "awesome" 0.73 MB
FFS, even the very earliest broadband packages were 512kbps (0.5 MB) and I'm on a poxy 730kbps!
I can't even watch streaming movies such as youtube without the damn thing stop starting

All the MaxDSL packages are marketed as "Up to 8 Meg", so that's how they get round it.
The speed is constantly changed, but only a few people ever get up to 8mb.
The highest I've seen on mine is about 6.2 mbps, which is pretty good.
Sky, and the rest, have you over a barrel I'm afraid.
Geezer
P.S. I have seen mine as low as 203kbps since being upgraded to 8mb, so it does vary wildly!

Unfortunately there are no SLAs when it comes to broadband. BT are only obliged to provide a phone line of good enough quality to carry voice calls (a string and 2 yoghurt pots can do that!
), ridiculous in this day in age, but that's the way it is.

In the old days it really mattered, 64kB BBC computer anyone
Nowadays storage and speeds are so high that people don't really bother about a factor of 8 ![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
