Default Problems with old Insurance comp

I have in the past owned a scooby but had to sell it off due to the high cost on insurance and am still getting letters from my old private Insurance company asking for over £500 quid. I have informed them when I sold the car before and was told that I would still need to be paying the money. At first I thought it was a joke and ignored them but am now recieving threatening court and the seizure of my goods letters

Has anyone ever had the same problem and could share some light on this.

What are they saying the money is for? I had a similar thing with Adrian Flux and part of the payment they wanted was to refund them the commision payment from the insurance company. I refused to pay anything other than a small admin fee and money to cover my time "on risk" but they would only accept full payment. In the end, I threatened them with the Financial Ombudsman and I haven't heard from them in a while...

From what I understand, if you have not had a claim in that period of insurance and you cancel they should only be entitled to the proportionate share of the commission & maybe an admin fee, £500 sounds rather high and also sounds as if it could be the remander of the amount of insurance outstanding when you cancelled, for which they would only be entitled too if you had made a claim or had one outstanding.

HTH, hopefully Tony from Greenlight may pop in and pass a comment?.

It is more like an agent whom I insured the car with and have been paying around £220 per month for the policy. The policy was canceled right after I sold the car and I have just phoned them up again and was told that the policy is like being on a mobile phone contract. He told me that even if I would sell the phone I am still under a 12 month contract which I have to pay for.

a) Did you have a claim on the policy?
b) Did you pay 20-25% as a first payment?

They are now saying that they have paid for the one year insurance for me and have only been refunded £700 from the one years insurance cost. So they are therefore asking me for the remaining £500+ payment

Hmmm.

What was your annual premium, how much have you paid, who are the brokers, and who are the insurers?

Pm me if you don't want it up on a public forum.
