England - European?
Been discussing this with a friend, why does England not take a more European approach to life, in general? On the continent, most countries (developed ones) have much more of a social approach. Tony Blair wanted continental Europe to "drop the cafe approach". He wants Europe to be more productive - Grrrr work work work. He wants Europeans to work themselves to the bone like England does.
On the continent, "family" seems a far more important ideal. They spend time to socialise with each other, there isn't the 24/7 approach. they seem to work to live, not live to work.
Why is England so non-European?? Should we be??

don't see much of a problem with a federal europe really
There's more to life than just the UK - after all, what National Identity is there left in the UK - thousands of chimps wearing Englands shirts, chanting Roo-ney and hanging flags from their hotel balconies..?
Do you think the Germans, French or Dutch have become LESS of a nation for joining the European Community fully - of course not, they're actually stronger, economically, socially and politically.

It is because the Brits think they are better than everyone else, just look at the way you all behave when you go abroad! is it any wonder everyone hates the Brits.

I've read some crap on scoobynet but the idea that the British are better than other nations in Europe is laughable.
Judging by the quality of the dirtbags I see on my travels.
Pasty faced, fat, ugly, stupid, football shirt wearing ********* with no class, no style and very little education. Only able to speak one language and vile- out of control children.
The worst of it is that I only tend to visit the 'nice' places and presumably if I was somewhere on the Spanish Costas I'd be seeing the real dregs.

Shaved heads, smashing stuff up, ordering people around, beating up people who didn't agree with them or speak their language - the only difference between their outing 60 years ago and the current Brit ones is the Germans were better dressed.

I would rather that we made our own laws as we always did before rather than our sorry imitations of statesmen who now accept Eu law and hide behind it to save theri own faces and to try to ensure well paid Eu jobs in the future rather than have any concern for our own country.
Why should we accept what they tell us to do when the commissioners have not been able to get their accounts accepted by the auditors for over ten years despite the graft and untraceable loss of billions of our money to un named places.
These are the people who sacked themselves because of the scandal, took the compensation money they were due, then carried on with the job because they said no one else could do it, and then re-established themselves except for one man and kept the compensation! you could not make that up if you tried!
Why should we be beholden to such a corrupt organisaton?
Free trade is good, federation would be disaster.
Our present set of leaders deserve to be ashamed for their gross incompetence and lack of care about the country as well as presiding over the death of the original family which is the most stable way to bring up children, and the dropping of standards of behaviour and thought for others to gutter level. Not to forget being made a major target for terrorism in a country overrun with illegal and deliberately uncontrolled immigration.
