Red face Extreme Vehicle Investigation Unit

I received a large brown envelope this morning with a sticker on it stating Extreme Vehicle Investigation Unit.

To say that I felt a little nervous opening it would be to understate the case - extreme Sti photographed being naughty - not that I ever am of course

I opened it and it seemed to be worse as there was a brown folder inside with Type-R written in large on the front and a bunch of 'polaroid' photos fell out...

...except it turns out to be a very smart direct marketing campaign for the Honda Civic Type-R. Hats off to Honda - you got my interest!

Worth getting one - probably a collectors item in years to come.

Mmmmmm!

Join the club. I thought, what the hell am I supposed to have done now?

Was a bit scary for a moment...may well take a look as I'm in the market for a new car, but I want a cheaper one to run that is less nickable..... They don't know that though

Even my wife showed an interest for 5 seconds before she realised it was just a car!

Wink

Got one as well, but where did they get my details from ?

It was sent to my work address, rather strange....

I was very worried until I realised it was a marketing campaign.

Well I remember one that I received from Sony (IIRC!) a few years back (1998-1999). I had recently left hospital having had emergency surgery at Frenchay (SAVE FRENCHAY HOSPITAL!) following a brain haemorrhage and was making a steady recovery at home... I was receiving regular results and charts from the consultant so getting envelopes from the hospital was a common occurence.

Anyway - first thing in the morning I received a plain brown envelope with a white sticky label with my name and address (seemingly) typed onto it in typewriter font (just like we use!). Marked as "Strictly private: to be opened by addressee only!" (Heart begins to pick up a bit...)

On opening the envelope, three apparently genuine MRI scans dropped out along with a single white page letter (again in typewriter font - heart is thumping a bit now...) The first part of the letter was worded something along the lines of "Dear Mr Smith. We have noticed some alarming patterns" etc etc... It took until halfway down the page to realise it was only marketing for the Playstation or something!

Anyway, it was VERY clever, certainly got my attention and - if they hadn't been unfortunate enough to get the timing so spectacularly wrong - it would have done the trick and captured my attention. In the event, all it did was give me a good fright and put me off my breakfast!
