eBay.co.uk: Infra Red Night Vision Camera Wireless CCTV Spycam UK (item 320043169962 end time 05-Nov-06 13:00:00 GMT)
Anyone any experience off these cheap wireless cctv cams sold on ebay as per the link above ??
having read this chaps advert it certainly seems as if it could well be a very good low cost form off security, particularly like his idea off using software to access the cctv image from your pda / laptop or whatver from wherever you are.
anyone here use one ??

I fit cctv for a living so i can say from experience they are rubbish. Ok they are better than nothing but the ir part allows you to see about 3 feet in front of the camera when it's dark and the daytime picture quality is pretty poor.

yup go for wires and don't expect much from the nightvision mode
i have 3 different types here at work
cam1

this is a Panasonic (i think? been 3 years since i put it up) CCD camera in a maplins external housing, its up a 30/40 foot pole, i cant remember which lens i used
cam2

this is a cheap micromark black and white cam from B&Q, the nightvision mode is very good considering and can see pretty much everything in the dark.
cam3 and cam4

cheap wired ebay specials, with "nightvision" mode, the cam is supposed to go into black and white mode at night, in reality, you can not see **** all when the lights go out, cam 3 is in a proper housing with a glass front as its inside the carwash and would get wet.
here is both cams last night for instance
office cam in nightvision mode

as you can see, its crap LOL
wash exit cam not in nightvision mode due to a big light in view

the 6 white dots are the "infrared" beams bouncing back of the housing glass front and being picked up
not very good either

Not cheap, but I can recomend this camera which is high res colour by day and infra red sensitive by night. Wired though, but it's not exactly hard, I have them mounted high and run the cables through the loft.
I've got a couple of them with the big IR illuminator here they work really well. I tried the smaller illuminators, but they weren't really up to the job - i've got mine mounted up high on the house and one lights up the drive and cars and the other covers the back.
