I have some US visitors over next week and they have decided not to use the company 'preferred' hotels in London as they are expensive (they are 4 or 5 *s) and instead have booked the Holiday Inn in Canning Town. See
Map of E16 1EA United Kingdom | Multimap.com for the location - right next to Canning Town station.
I've no idea what the area is like so could anyone who is reasonably local give me a heads up? I mean, are they likely to get mugged as soon as they leave the hotel? Or even mugged in the corridors ... ?![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

PS: this location as we'll be visting Canary Wharf based punters.
PPS: silly really as the company policy actually says they can book the expensive ones .... I know what I'd do....

Canning Town ![Embarrassment](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/redface.gif)
Its rough, not nice to be walking around late at night, especially not being from the area.
You could stay at the Novotel at Tower Hill and get DLR to the Wharf, takes about 20 mins.

I agree with all the above regarding Canning Town.
There are a couple of cheap and cheerful right next door to Excel. The only down side is that you can see all the faces of the pilots flying out of London City airport

This was close to the hotel IIRC
BBC NEWS | England | London | Hundreds attend 'hero's' funeral
There's also the Britannia at South Quay - a five minute walk from Canary Wharf. Can't say I'd recommend the Brit, but it's much better than anything at Canning Town.
You could also try the Hilton at Rotherhide - it's a 10 min boat ride from Canary Wharf (or an hour train/bus if you miss the boat!)
