Just got Sky+ and the manual states that I can connect a dvd writer to it to offload broadcasts from the Sky+ hard drive to a dvd.
Anyone recommend a good/cheap dvd writer that would look nice sat on top of the Sky+ box?
Regards, Bigmac.

I have a Panasonic DMRES20D which works fine for this.
You might as well buy the cheaper DMRES10 which doesn't have the freeview tuner (obviously not needed if you have Sky).
But any DVD writer out there will do the job really. Just make sure it has as many compatability types (+/-) as possible.

I'm looking at a DVD recorder to save files from a Topfield PVR.
Amazon are selling a Samsung DVD-R122 for about £60. (Similar prices also available if you look on Kelkoo for other suppliers). The multiregion hack is widely available on t'net.
I haven't tried the Samsung, but reviews suggest that it is fine for the price.

How does it connect mate? IDE/USB ? Spotted an ext SATA port on my [dead] SKY HD box when removing it but have no idea how you go about using/enabling it and importing/exporting.

Don't know about Sky+, but the Topfield has a USB2 port. With the TV and PC in different rooms and the need for video editing software on the PC it seems like a PITA to do things that way (for me at least).
SCART out from the PVR to SCART in on the DVD recorder would work. Obviously, the Pause button on the recorder needs to be pressed during ads., and the quality won't be quite the same as a digital-to-digital recording, but my attitude is that if it's better than recording to VHS and I can archive programmes that I want to keep........
