I am currently in the process of redeveloping my flat and have started to turn my attention to switches, sockets and lighting.
I’ve done a few google searches and have found examples of products but I’m finding it a little hard to gauge relative value (i.e what’s a good price to pay). The flat currently has white plastic switches and sockets and I want more modern metal ones but I certainly don’t want to pay any sort of premium for fancy or named ones. I just want neat, tidy and cheap switches, dimmers and sockets all of the same design and preferably brushed metal. I’d look to buy the whole lot in one go for every room in the flat so I’d appreciate advice on good places to get these at low cost.
I’d also appreciate a nod (i.e link) in the right direction with regards to good online lighting companies with a wide choice of modern/contemporary design across a wide price range.

Spent ages looking about 18 months ago and honestly couldnt find much for better value than Argos, they did deals, i.e. buy 2 light switches and get the 3rd free so at first glance they looked expensive but reflecting on the deals they did they actually worked out cheaper unless you can get someone in the trade to find any.

Generally I just go to City Electical Founders (CEF), Clearlight or Newey and Eyre. And buy a box of them (normally come boxes of ten). As they will usually do the cheapy no name stuff and will be equal to or cheaper than DIY stores ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
However, if I can bung it on my mate's trade account, I will

Word of warning with brushed steel - some makes are awful for finger prints, grey or satin silver tends to stay finger print free better

try screwfix direct, ive just spent about £98 on brushed chrome switches.
I got 7 x double sockets, 4 x single sockets, 2 x dimmers, 2 x 3way switches, 1 tv aerial socket.
When I got mine if you buy 5 of 1 type then you get x% off.

My missus spent an alarming ammount of cash in John Lewis on plus and light switches.
Check that they fit as well as some of ours needed extensive chisseling so a ten minute job turned into half a day.

Might wanna try TLC Electrical Supplies they worked quite cheap for me.
Know what you mean about the chrome\stainless steel switches.
Other half wanted them, now all she does is keep cleaning them as they leave finger marks everytime you use them.
Oh well that'll teach for not letting me get the white ones.

Another vote for TLC, I picked up some stuff from their Southampton branch not long ago and it was good quality and cheaper then elsewhere. They also subsequently swapped some items where I'd asked for the wrong rating, no quibbles.
