I hope members of this BBS will excuse me for using up bandwidth for a purely personal exercise:
Not the easiest of days for Moi.
A year ago today I returned home and, for the first time in 20 years, my dog was not there to greet my return. He lived a long and -I sincerely hope- very happy life with our family.
One year on and I've spent today reflecting on how much he contributed to my quality of life.

I wish I had a better picture to share. Apparently I keep the best ones in my mind.
I miss you, Harry. Everyday.
--------------------------------
No one leaves you
When you live in their heart and mind
And no one dies
They just move to the other side
When we're gone
Watch the world simply carry on
We live on laughing and in no pain
We'll stay and be happy
With those who have loved us today

gutted for you mate. loss of a loved one, be it pet or person, is never good and there's alot of people (myself included) that had a long term pet and it's strange when something that has grown up with you and been part of your life isn't around anymore![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
sometimes pets have a different effect on you than people, hard to describe but it sounds like you know what i'm trying to say

PS. I always like reading you posts, you always seem to talk a lot of sense (unusual for this place, I know!).

If you have a long term pet, you establish a bond that is unconditional and pure. When you loose them the tangible stuff ceases to be important, it's the feeling they inspired in you, witnessing the joy and appreciation for all the simple things in life that they exhibited, and, of course, the good sides they brought out of you. At first it feels like they take that with them.
Given time, however, you realise that they wouldn't want you to be unhappy and you start smiling again. When you can do that, if you close your eyes and think of them, you'll see them smiling right back at you

Thanks to all those who've expressed well wishes.

NS04 - When I read your first post I initially thought to myself - blimely it's only a dog, this is a bit much, get things in perspective!
However after reading your second post and thinking about it, I can only imagine how it might feel to lose a loyal companion of 20 years.
Looked like a lovely dog and sure it had a very happy life with you.

I never normally respond to posts like this.......but....I like dogs. You seem alright too. Those two things, coupled with the fact that I'm a bit merry, has made me quite emotional. Sorry about your dog, dude.

I'll never have a pet for this very reason, you bond with it only to watch it grow old and die...... usually in around 14 years
So in a nutshell I'm gutted for you NS04

I know just how you must feel. Our cat is 21 years old which I understand makes the equivalent of about 140 human years! He is a real character and is very fit still although he has slowed down a bit.
He is such an integral part of our family and much loved and I dread the thought of when his time comes.
My sympathies are with you of course.
