According to a local washer repairman, virtually all washers are the same now, with the exception of Tricity Bendix, which he reckons are bombproof, and cheap and easy, (read: relatively simple), to repair if parts do wear.
His advice to me was to buy one of those, or the cheapest other make I could find that did what I wanted, from Comet or Currys, and buy a 5-year repair warranty with it.
If/when it breaks down AFTER 5 years, junk it and start again. I've done that with the Ariston one my wife wanted. It's been repaired four times in four years so far, having had TWO complete drum assemblies

My gf's hotpoint has had the repair man out to it Three times in 6 months since new. Doesn't seem v reliable.
My friends Smeg has been as bad.
My Zanussi has never gone wrong but i only use it about Three times every Two weeks so it's hardly had a hard life.

Dont buy Servis they are fcukin junk
I replaced the kitchen in my old house about 6-7 months ago & replaced all the appliances at the same time.
When i sold the house i gave the appliances to my sister, she was on the phone earlier today telling me the washing machine wont spin. When i unwrapped it when i bought it the fcukin thing wouldnt turn on. Currys wouldnt take it back they told me to phone there C/s to be honest they were quite quick at responding but two faults in 7 months.
Not for me ... sorry.
In the flat i have at the moment i have all Miele appliance & a samsung american style fridge. They all work perfect. Once the kitchen is ready to go into the farm, i will be buying Meile from now on.

Have an AEG which cost me over £700 in 1996 which was a heck of a lot of money at the time - apart from someone spilling a cup of coffee in the controls (fixed for nothing anyway), it's never missed a beat and is still going strong. So AEG all the way for me now...unless one of the new Mieles with a 10 year guarantee tempted me away.

brought a hoover washing machine 2 years ago... went wrong a few times - just out of warranty last year when it first went **** up - had to pay £100 just to get them to come out..then the parts on top
Went wrong again about 3 months ago - decided rather than pay all that money again, might as well get a new one... AEG which seems to do the job

Our miele is still making shrieking sounds of death from the pump. And the inlet solonoid leaks (can hear it hissing). 6 years old now.
This is where some smarmy repairman comes round, waves an encrusted heater element at me, and tells me I should have used calgon
Gran's meile was older than me when it finally died (26) I suspect this one won't make it anywhere near as far, nor the 15years that the previous Philips did without breaking down. Can't beat modern technology, eh?

Without a doubt. It's pricey, but there's simply no comparison.

Next one 'down' from Miele is Siemens if you don't want to stretch, but frankly the 10 year no questions asked gaurantee with Miele makes the extra money paid worthwhile.
The Salesman in Comet was very convincing... he said "you want to see strong?"
Ummmm....
"Got a £1 coin?"
UMMMMMM...... I gave him a £1 coin which he proceeded to use to beat the living sh*t out of the Miele washing machine on display in the shop. Not a scratch, not a dent. Nothing. Strong machine.
Oh, the big thing about Miele is that they use cast iron frames and not concrete blocks to provide stability. So you have a STRONG frame, not a weak frame with a lump of rock swaying around inside.
