"Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam under which people convicted of murder, drug trafficking, rape and armed robbery can be executed"
If there is no doubt as to guilt then the UK should follow!!!!!

Do not be deluded that Saudi Arabia is some sort of upholder of Islamic values. That country has one of the most corrupt, greedy and outlandishly money orientated administrations on the planet. The rich oil sheikhs plunder their wealth in the West and bank roll much of Europe and the US. Their infatuation with all things US is nauseating.

Would cut crime to virtually nothing over night. Make jails jails, not the comfy TV, DVD, games console cells they currently get.
Hell, a prisoner gets more money for his/her meals than our school kids get.

It would perhaps give the victims at least a sense of justice, which they don't seem to get at the moment, but unless Police detection rates improve, people think there is little chance of being caught and so will take the risk, regardless of the potential punishment.

I don't think it would cut crime overnight. What did the article say, 35 beheaded this year so far? If a public beheading isn't a deterrent for those that were caught, then not a lot else is. Unless you promise to behead all their friends and family as well I suppose. Strong deterrents don't work on the stupid

you say its not the western way , yet it used to be in the dark ages and worked well!
We could start by introducing guantanimo bay style prisons shut down the "hotel" style ones we have now.
Then only the persistant ***** carry on commiting crime then revert back to the "old" style of crime prevention!
pro rata tells me that the prisons will be holding mainly ethnics.

how is a death sentance a deterant? the notion that a baddie thinks "i dont want that to happen so i wont do this naughty thing" is rubbish.
do you think they want to go to prison for life? of course not - they do it because they think they will get away with it.
if fear of being killed doing what you want to do was enough to put people off no one would drive anywhere over 10 mph.

Who would you blame? Your presious child, or the murdering scum that sold it to them in the first place?
My bet is you'd blame the dealer.

In our nanny state, we lock up the houseowner and recompense the burglar for any injuries caused by his illegal entry.
Also, since the snowdrop petition, which only attacked LEGAL ownership of weapons, there has been a huge rise in shootings - caused by bad guys with guns.
Only the bad guys here have guns.

That said (and assuming they were not acting under duress) I have no sympathy for drug dealers; scumbags profit from ruining lives!
I don't agreee with the death penalty though- as I've said on many occassions.

I would suggest that you never say never and keep your eyes open, lest you -like many others- find that complacency comes back to bite them in the rear end!
