Default Just got road raged - Again!

Had a couple of psyco moments (me on the receiving end) in my Golf (R32) and just got another one- From an artic' lorry driver. Overtook him (big gap between him and another lorry, plenty of room and good view ahead) but he obviously accelerated hard and closed the gap so had little room to fit into.
We then stopped at the lights at the top of Truro (Cornwall) (him flashing and tailgating me for about 5 miles) and he jumped out and had a serious shouting fit.
So I took the reg plate and reported the **** to Staples (it was a Staples lorry) and he's now in deep merde - Not usually the sort to do that but it got VERY dangerous.

I think its cos you dared to overtake him.never seem to have this problem with foreign lorry drivers (I live quite close to a cross channel ferry terminal) although going around rounadabouts slightly wide they do indicate (and go the way they are indicating) and seem quite concientious about other road users.

but he obviously accelerated hard

Arctic lorries cant accelerate hard , Perhaps you just cut the distance down between him and the vehicle in front too much, causing him to back off and lose precious momentum .

No excuse for the eppy though

If I remember correctly, the highway code says you should always leave room for overtaking cars to pull in between you and the car ahead, therefore its his responsibility to make room for you. But then who pays any attention to the highway code these days

I saw a film where a car driver reported a trucker to his employer for bad driving. The trucker got sacked and then went out to try and kill the family of the car driver...

I always get cut up on the way into work, I tend to phone the company if it has a number on the side of the van/truck/car and leave an inpolite message .Something like "F562 UKS 'you are a F##### C###, thank you !' always leave the vehicles reg. Normally at 7.30 am. Imagine my surprise a couple of months back when someone answered after a removals van cut me up.....

Ah, but did they come on tyhe line and tell you that YOU were a F*cking c*nt, not their driver?

Must admit, I've only ever reported one driver. He almost knocked me off my bike, and I shouted out in pure frear. Then he stopped, got out and threatened me for swearing at him!

Twonk.

I don't have an R32 any more - I have a pokey (but slower) diesel car - A 150PS CDTi Astra (long story on the Golf) but it's a very good overtaking machine. In a small rev range it's properly quick (232lbs/ft) but out of that and it's just another soot chucker.

My overtaking was fine (IAM + Cop trained, blah, blah blah)- Loads of room but suddenly as I looked in my mirror to pull in (as I always do) the truck was somehow very close. He just didn't want me to overtake.

Anyway, I doubt he'll do it again and he didn't get quite lairy enough to require me getting out of the car to **** him which was handy.

I think you will find many lorries can accelerate pretty quickly once on the move especially if they are pulling an empty trailer. Easily quick enough to deliberately close a gap. The engines are all torque!

If a truck is travelling at a constant speed, with the correct size gap between him and the proceeding vehicle, dictated by road surface, weather conditions and braking ability/reaction gap, and another car "slips into" said gap, then the truck has to deccelerate to "make room" thus causing potentially a much larger hold up behind him as he slows, thereafter taking a long time to rebuild the momentumn he lost as a result of the one selfish driver who slipped into the gap that wasn't appropriate.

If the truck driver had left the correct distance between himself and the preceding vehicle in the first place, there would be no need to "make room" for an overtaking vehicle.

He still has to slow down to increase the gap after he has been overtaken!

He will if there are additional cars behind that want to overtake, but I still fail to see why he should lose his temper with the first guy...

Because he was a **** I suspect.

Tailgating his other **** mate in another truck to prevent anyone from making good progress.

There was a time when truck drivers were better than white van man or , dare I say it, ******* bus drivers.

Looks like those days are numbered !

Dave - I overtook on the A39 just before the Honda garage (big long straight) then got aggro'd on the junction of the A39/A390 (near Julian Foye) at the lights, then he drove like a psyco down Tregolls Road.

If he'd had to slow down, I wouldn't have overtaken! Hardly courteous to overtake then force the guy behind to slow is it?!

He just closed what was a large gap (at least five car lengths or more) into a small one (two car lengths or less!) because he was Mr Angry.
I don't overtake if there's no room!

And yes, Truro traffic is minging right now!!
I live in Malpas just behind the Heron - Great views!

Might be a jealousy thing, may have been borderline for the jibbing in and had you been in a more nondescript car you may have got away with it.

Jacko - Can you get any more non descript than this?!!!

2005 Vauxhall Astra Design Estate 1.9CDTi 150PS (longest car title ever?!!)

As mentioned, the R32 had to go (vandalism trouble)!
