Talking It's started....

The annual christmas PANIC that characterises the UK.

Just got back from Sainsbury's - mass PANIC in progress there already.

The transport system is being shut down. 1000s stranded at the nation's airports for the foreseeable future...

British Airways web server has given up the ghost...

Just waiting for the inevitable huge motorway pile up now caused by idiots driving too fast for the conditions...

I love Christmas!!

Sainsburys today too. Just parked up next to an 'official' parking space next to the cash machine. Was going to be there literally 2 mins to get some cash as there were no spaces at all in the whole car park. Even the spastic spaces were fully booked. This old biddy in her wreck of a car started doing motions towards me for some strange reason, I assume becasue I dared to park up for a few seconds in a non car parking spot. Not blocking any traffic or anything. She shat herself and her hubby moved off a bit sharpish when I started to go towards her

I love those sort of people. Like to sware and get mouthy, but then they soon shut up when they realise they might have to actually say something to your face!!!!

Watching it brew up on Traffic Masters website this afternoon as they seem to be expecting a 5 hour "rush hour" today starting at 3pm...
All the red dots appearing at the usual motorway hotspots and some such as the M40 looking very bad indeed...
Hope they're all listening to Chris Rea's belting festive tune "Traffic Jam For Christmas"

People go mad just because the shops are closed for 2 days.

You get the people with trollies piled high full of crap. And why do they go nuts for bread? You see people grabbing 4 or 5 loafs, why? Grab 1 loaf on Christmas eve, then walk to the shop the day after Boxing day and get a fresh one.

I have to go to Morrisons on Saturday for my regular weekly shop. I'm dreading it. Supermarkets annoy the **** out of me, the less time spent in one the better. I always come out angry. If it's not screeming kids it's people wandering around in slow motion getting in my way. Arrrrrrrrr !!!!!

I had to take my GF to Stansted this morning (3am), the roads were quiet bu tthe weather was absolutely horrible. I ran out of washer fluid from cleaning the windscreen so often (and I filled it before I left). Bloody glad we had an early flight booked though, I wouldn't want to be on the roads now.

Also went in Sainsburys at lunchtime to get a few things, like mentioned above the place was heaving and total chaos. I just grabbed the few things I was after and left sharpish, if I;ve forgotten anything I'll go to Tesco at midnight.

Btw no panic buying of bread here, I make it fresh in the bread machine.

Milk? To make bread? It's flour, water, salt, sugar, yeast, and a dash of sunflower oil to make a normal loaf of bread. I have plenty of everything in the kitchen thanks.

Btw plenty of milk too, 4 pints of Cravendale in the fridge which will last me ages making cuppas.

Actually, my missus' parents have their own cow, and a goat too.

Sadly they're all 3000 miles away so not a lot of help.

It is the winter 'sproutfest' pagan ceremony.

People buy as many sprouts as they can and fight each other on middle earth and in sainsbury's using sharpened credit cards.

For some reason

Why the rolleyes UB? If you've got any ideas as to how NATS can resequence arriving aircraft to maintain a flow rate of 42-44 per hour, in LOVIZ conditions, I'd love to hear them?

so fog renders radar usless??? i though modern planes had automatic landing systems, so i,m a bit confused...

fly at night ( **** all visibility ) fly though clouds (which planes do) **** all visibility, and thats ok, but fog....

Just curious (all the talk about fog at Heathrow) - if there're any LHR controllers here, when do you move into your new tower?

The move to the new Tower is the weekend of 13th Jan.

Two things happen in fog, that screw LHR up.

1. Aircraft can land on the runway, blind, but pilots cannot see where the exits are, so are slower to vacate. Whilst aircraft can fly themselves to the runway, they cannot, yet, steer themselves to the gate! This means the distance between landing aircraft is doubled. Anything else and you get the Gran Canaria scenario. Thats where a 747 trundling along the runway was hit by another 747 who was trying to take-off on the same runway. Result? Over 500 people dead.

2. If the distance between landing aircraft is doubled, you can only land half the amount of aircraft, compared to a normal day. If you can only land half the amount, and have no spare slots to re-fit the remaining aircraft into
( and LHR is at 98.8% capacity at the moment ) you have to cancel half the flights.

Oh, and one of our ILS's was down today, so no alternation either. I bet the locals are chuffed!
