Hi all,
Have been thinking about this new venture for some time now and its about time I got on with it
In terms of registering, is it just a simple call to companies house and pay them the fee? unlimited company right
How much has to be turned over before been vat registered and what can I claim for? car, fuel, laptop etc
Very basic questions at the moment but bare with me
Thanks,
Mike

The easiest and lowest cost way is to use an agency. Search the web - there are loads of them out there.
For a slightly higher fee (£100-200) you can use a local accountancy firm who will set it up for you, help you register it, set up VAT and advise you on the most appropriate structure.
I did this and got a company set up with the name of my choice.
One question - why unlimited? Go for a limited company unless you have to be unlimited (such as an accountant or lawyer in practice).
You don't say where you - I have local recommendations for people who helped me.

Its relatively straightforward to do yourself. You need to fill in a couple of forms, get them witnessed by a solicitor/magistrate and send them, along with a cheque for £20 to Companies House. Look on Companies House website and all of the forms are listed and theyll be posted to you for free...

Unless you've done this check out some local Business Help webstuff. Staffordshire Business Enterprise or the Chamber of Commerce or whatever as they wil have lots of patronising Business Advice info. But still worth looking
You might want to think about working as a sole trader before jumping into the "Form a Company" scenario, for example. And this is all for free ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
You can also ring the VAT helpline for a chat about your ideas. Even some VAT people have a human element, surprising as it seems.

Hi - having done the setup etc myself I'd recommend paying £20-£35 for an online incorporation company such as whbc.co.uk (??) or do a search on Used Cars for Sale in the UK from Exchange & Mart for business services > company formations for several options.
Don't pay any extra for printed certificates or articles/memorandums etc as you can print these yourself ! Also those who offer vat rgistration etc - you can do this yourselve via HM Revenue & Customs: Home Page !![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Do what I did and learn it all for yourself, it's cheaper, faster and more beneficial in the long-run !
Hope it helps
