This has to be the best tactical game out! - Apart from a few quirks here and there GR pounds Rogue Spear into the ground.

To see if its worthy of dethroning Counter-Strike as the best online game would anyone be interested in some online multiplay as I could host on a fast internet link if need be.

www.ghostrecon.com

Link fixed

Crispin - If you loved RS, then you'll love this. The only issue I have with RG is you don't have the same amount of control on your AI team as per RS. Apart from that I love this game.

Davz - OFP is v.good. I only wish the Internet code was better Actually, thinking about it. I haven't tried out patch v1.3 - thats meant to improve the code considerably ....think I'll give that a go next week.

Steve - buy it

I tried the demo but just couldn't get on with it.. was the best "team" cs style games I've played in a while. Just a bit irritating the way the gameplay seems to revolve more around knowing where the oposition is going to be rather than tactics. As for the runing n shootin part I just crept around with the sniper. Also when you leave a specific team alone the always seem to look towards the primary target (not the direction you left them facing)

Reminds me alot of hidden and dangerous the way you have to play the lvl over and over agian. until you know exactly where the enemy r going to be. I've been lookin for a game to buy for ages and atm its between this and AOE2 with the expansion packs but everytime I go to buy it I think... I'll just be playing cs :/

Is the full game anybetter?

Diz

I would say yes, the full game is better.

I thought exactly the same as you when I tried out the demo. My team was getting slaughtered when ever I was moving around the map, the team wouldn’t do exactly what I wanted them to do, the only way to beat the level was with remembering were the enemy was etc, very similar to H&D as you said.

Since I brought the game though I have come to understand how to mange my team.

For example.
Moving around the map, Instead of having you team running around in assault mode (default) you switch them over Recon mode. You could have one team on suppress mode covering the forward team that’s on Recon mode.

What I have been impressed about the game was the teams/enemy AI. The way they utilities the scenery is cool – better than OFP. On one of the maps I had to secure this bridge before crossing over. So I moved my Alpha team forward, with Bravo sniper and Charlie support covering them. Once Alpha reached the bridge I left them there while I pi$$ed around with Bravo. When I switched back to Alpha I had discovered that they had position themselves to the edge of the bridge. Using the bridge as cover while giving themselves a good viewing angle. Another was when I stormed this house, my team member automatically moved into position to cover the alley. Lucky for me he killed three guards coming that way…..very cool

One thing to note though – Some people have said that the team AI is crap compared to the enemy. What they don’t realise is that the game most probably using the same AI code – it the users intervention that kills your team, not cos the enemy AI has superior code.

At the end of the day. If you want a quick’n’easy game then CS is unbeatable. But if you after a tactical/realistic game then RG is currently no. one in my books.

By the way – I’m easily pleased, well that’s what my g/f says

I've had ghost recon and OFP for some time now but both leave me a little cold.

bit to tactical for my simple brain i think
Prefer the wade in with all guns blazing approach.

one real criticism of GR is that i can never get crosshair on a target that accurately, it seems to 'jump' to far left/right or up/down. I don't have this prob with any other games and its most annoying getting shot at and you can't target the person doing the shooting.....anyone else had this prob?

i've fiddled around lots with the sensitivity and still cant seem to get it right..
Its the only game it happens on as well, most strange.

I would join you in CS land, but i just find it a little dull (mind you have only played CS on public servers, might be more fun when you kinda know those involved). Might have to dig out half life and give it a crack.

failing that you can come find me on various UT servers (player name wayland) usually with a very low ping

Bought this whilst out "Christmas Shopping". Must admit strugglin at the moment. I do seem to be relying on knowing where the nemy is going to be. still after about 7 attempts havent got the entire platoon through the first level.

Am I expecting too much of the AI soldiers that they actually shot back at the enemy ?. On my last attempt my sniper actually cleared the tents whilst I was off clearing the bunkers with A & B - which was nice.

Keep thinking hmmmm C/S gameplay in this scenery - Box says on-line needs broadband still I'm sure the ISDN would cope.

Deano - your team is crap when you start out because they stats are crap. What you need to do is to try and keep them alive so that you can build up their skills. Once their skills are improved you'll start to see that they can take care of themselves. Also, always try and complete the secondary objectives as you'll be rewarded a new specialist in each mission - these guys/girls are cool.

Hopefully, next week I'll be able to setup a server for some multiplay bashing.
